Part computer scientist, mathematician, and trend spotter - data scientists turn data into action to improve the way we live and work. ?? Introducing students to data science provides them a solid foundation in key concepts and affords students the ability to adapt with and understand changing technologies. Highschoolers from Butler HS in Matthews, NC learned from Jo Christine M., the Director of Principal Foundation, and Dr. Terence Lester, the Founder of Love Beyond Walls, to explore how we can use "Data for Good." Students discussed career pathways with Princinpal Financial Group volunteers while packing hygiene bags for donation, created data-driven research questions surrounding issues they cared about, and explored the Dignity Museum, a traveling exhibit dedicated to confronting ideas about homelessness. On behalf of Principal Foundation, one student won $5,000 in academic funding after submitting an essay about how data science has redefined cancer research in the last decade. ?

You know the phrase, "You can't be what you can't see"? ?? ?? The Center for Audit Quality is ensuring that all students have the opportunity to see themselves in the field of accounting by providing resources and in-person events that illuminate the path to this rewarding profession. Last week, EVERFI and the Center for Audit Quality teamed up with volunteers from Deloitte, PwC, and EY to visit three New York City high schools aimed to showcase the incredible opportunities a career in accounting can offer. Students had the chance to connect with 20+ professional accountants, engage in activities to identify their career interests, and celebrate the awarding of a $5,000 scholarship to one of their peers. ?? The event series was part of the Accounting Careers: Limitless Opportunities program, a national education initiative developed by EVERFI in partnership with the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) and their Accounting+ program, which aims to demonstrate how accounting skills can help students achieve a variety of career and life goals and help diversify the field.
