ABOUT THE EXHIBITION On April 5th, the Evanston Art Center will open an exhibition celebrating the works of the late Victoria Yau (1939- 2023), a long-time resident of Evanston and one of the earliest Asian-American contemporary abstract artists. Born in Shanghai in 1939, Yau worked across a variety of media, including ink, watercolor, and multimedia collages. This exhibition will showcase a broad range of her works, highlighting her dedication to her craft, and was curated by Emma Rose Gudewicz, EAC's Director for Development and Exhibitions, with an accompanying essay written by Northwestern PhD candidate Sihan Wang. 关于我们
Founded in 1929, the Evanston Art Center has become one of the largest community art centers in Illinois and a leading provider of quality arts education and community outreach. Created through the efforts of 20 civic organizations, from 1929 to 1943 the Art Center was housed in the basement of the old Evanston Library. In 1942, the Art Center was incorporated as a nonprofit. Since 1966, the Art Center has lived and grown in in the Harley Clarke House on the shores of Lake Michigan. In May 2015, the Evanston Art Center is officially moving to its new home at 1717 Central Street. The new location allows the Art Center to expand beyond the visual arts and additionally offer programming in culinary and language arts, design, digital fabrication, film, movement, music, performance and more. At its new home, the Evanston Art Center will serve more people in more ways, offering a variety of services to a diverse community.

Plan your visit to the EAC today to view "Spiritual Journey" featuring Jack Austin. This exhibition is on view until April 13th in our Lobby Gallery. All galleries are free and open to the public. ?? ABOUT THE EXHIBITION This series, “Spiritual Journey”, uses multiple exposures and varied saturation to show a pivotal moment through multiple perspectives. In all the photos, a hand reaches forward, searching for something; perhaps nourishment of the soul, human touch, or the horizon. A range of haziness shows multiple perspectives; for some, the path is more clear, and for others more foggy. Taking the series as a whole is akin to group consciousness and each individual image shows the limited perspective of the individual. While we are trapped in our bodies, enveloped in our own spiritual journeys, we can learn from each other. "Unbounded Territories: Where to Imagine an Alternative" is on display in our First Floor Gallery until April 13th. Come by the Evanston Art Center to experience this compelling exhibition today! ABOUT THE EXHIBITION "Unbounded Territories" invites you to question the spaces we inhabit and envision radical alternatives. Drawing inspiration from Borges's "The Library of Babel," the exhibition transposes the author's infinite yet fragmented universe of knowledge into our lived reality. Just as Borges's labyrinthine library reflects the paradoxes of human conditions, "Unbounded Territories" posits that our contemporary spaces—private, public, and national—are arenas where multiple, intersecting struggles materialize.
