Product of the Week: Electric Power Steering Kit for Electric Vehicles This power steering unit is an electrically-driven kit ideal for electric vehicles. Without the need for power steering fluid, this makes for a low-maintenance kit. Take advantage of a significantly more efficient system for EVs by eliminating the need to constantly run a power steering pump. This unit includes a torque sensor to determine how much steering assist is needed, and it varies assist according to speed. At low speeds, more assist is provided for easy turning during parking maneuvers; at high speeds, less assist is provided for improved road feel and directional stability. The motor assists steering through a worm shaft and reduction gear installed in the steering column housing. The Tesla Model S Lithium Ion Battery 18650 EV Module is our product of the week to close out January. These are used 18650 Tesla battery modules from a 85kWh Model S - 22.8 Volt, 5.3 kWh T. These are currently the best battery on the market for energy density, allowing many of our classic conversion kits to get 100 to 120 miles per charge using the 1p5s configuration. Model S modules are comprised of 3400mAh cells arranged in a 74p6s configuration. They are rated at 500 amps, 750 amps peak. They have an integrated liquid cooling/heating system, but they can also be air cooled in light duty cycle applications. They also have an integrated connector with cell level connectivity for BMS systems and two integrated thermistors. The packs contain 444 cells, and each cell is independently safety fused on both terminals. A preferred configuration for a typical AC50 or Hyper9 application is 1p5s for a total of 26kWh, or 2p5s for a total of 53kWh of energy with a total of 10 modules. These work particularly well in 24 volt off grid solar applications as well. These packs can be ordered with the Rev A,B or C integrated BMS boards (our suggested set up) or the stock Tesla board. There is no better candidate for an internal combustion engine (ICE) to electric vehicle (EV) conversion than a TR-7, mostly because the TR-7 would spend most of its life in a mechanic shop. This 1980 TR-7 was swapped using our Universal EV Conversion kit and is running the NetGain Motors 144V HyPer 9. This kit comes with your AC motor with regenerative braking, programmable controller, motor controller liquid cooling plate, state of charge instrumentation, throttle controller, and J1772 charge inlet. After mounting this system, the only thing left to do was to add a battery system.
