China's electric vehicle (EV) market ended 2024 on a high note, showcasing impressive growth and innovation! Battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations surged by 17.3%, with a remarkable 6.34 million new models hitting the roads. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) deliveries saw an even more dramatic increase, soaring by 79.8% to reach 4.86 million units. BYD emerged as a dominant force in the PHEV market, securing six of the top 10 spots, with the BYD Song leading the pack. This highlights BYD's strong market presence and commitment to sustainable mobility. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model Y continued to capture the hearts of consumers, becoming the best-selling BEV in December. In terms of market share, BEVs accounted for 56.6% of the total EV market, while PHEVs made up 43.4%. The overall EV market in China grew by 45.2% year-on-year, with a total of 11.2 million units sold in 2024. What are the global EV market’s most successful brands? The global electric vehicle (EV) market experienced remarkable growth in 2024, with battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) reaching over 17.29 million units, marking a significant 26.1% increase from 2023. BEVs led the charge with 10.8 million units, while PHEVs hit 6.49 million units. This surge in demand highlights the growing consumer interest in sustainable transportation solutions and the industry's commitment to reducing carbon emissions. Leading the market, BYD sold an impressive 3.84 million units, capturing 22.2% of the market share, and achieving a 33.6% year-on-year growth. Tesla followed with 1.78 million units sold, holding a 10.3% market share, despite a slight 1.2% decline. Wuling came in third with 688,415 deliveries, marking a 44.7% increase from 2023 and capturing 4% of the market. BMW sold 535,586 plug-in vehicles, up 7.1% year-on-year, making up 3.1% of the global EV market. Li Auto finished the year in fifth place, with EV sales jumping by 40% to 526,353 units, increasing its market share from 2.7% in 2023 to 3% in 2024.
