These roles, whether as a victim, rescuer, or persecutor, can be a result of past experiences, learned behaviors, or even a way to gain a sense of control in chaotic situations. People find themselves repeating these roles due to a lack of awareness or an understanding of how to establish healthier dynamics. It's common for individuals to unconsciously mirror the relationship models they observed in their formative years. Breaking free, involves recognizing the patterns, understanding their origins, and actively working towards changing one's responses and interactions within the relationship. Here are some practical exercises to help you from Annick Verboven 1. Role Reflection: Take time each day to reflect on your interactions. Identify any instances where you may have taken on the role of victim, rescuer, or persecutor. Write these down and reflect on what triggered these responses and how you might approach similar situations differently in the future. 2.
