The European Media Management Association (emma) is an international not-for-profit academic organisation that was founded in 2003 to support growth in media management research, scholarship and practice throughout Europe and around the world. emma organises an annual academic media management conference somewhere in Europe. Looking back at EMMAhub 2024 in Berlin – a dynamic platform for change, collaboration, and innovation in media and migration. The emmahub 2024 event at Macromedia University of Applied Sciences in Berlin brought together academics, industry leaders, and practitioners to explore "Media Management and Migration: Challenges of Media Making by and for Diasporic Communities." Over three days, the event showcased the economic, creative, and social dimensions of diasporic media. From thought-provoking keynotes to engaging panels, the discussions highlighted the importance of authentic representation and the entrepreneurial spirit of diasporic media makers. Highlights included: -Dr. ?zgür ?zvatan’s keynote on inclusive media policies and the challenges of fostering diversity -Natalia Grote (Kohero) on the critical role of newsroom diversity in creating authentic migration narratives. -Insights from TIKHON DZYADKO (DOZHD Optimistic Channel) and John Olivieira (OneWorld) on independent and sustainable migrant-focused media. Closing contributions from C-level managers and leading journalists in public and private media, including Netflix Germany (Lisa Kreimeyer), Business Insider Deutschland/Axel Springer (Uta Miryeong Weisse), Ard Aktuell (Dr. Helge Fuhst), Deutsche Welle (Dr. Erkan Arikan), and Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb) (Dr. Eva Flecken), envisioning a more inclusive media landscape. Yesterday, we kicked off an incredible journey at our Berlin Campus! ?? This year we are the proud hosts of the European Media Management Association (emma)’s new workshop format “emmahub”, which aims to bring together research community and professionals in exploring emerging trends, challenges and innovation in media management.?? ? Over the next couple of days, academics and distinguished media professionals will gather to discuss the evolving landscape of media in diasporic contexts.?? ? From arrivals and registration to the powerful welcome by Prof. Dr. Dr. Castulus Kolo, Prof. Dr. Evelyn K?stner, Christian Milster, Prof. Dr. Eylem Yanardagoglu and Prof. Dr. Gernot Wolfram, it was a day of inspiring introductions and networking.? ? Attendees will delve?into specialized workshop groups to explore the crucial themes of diasporic audiences and media consumption, media entrepreneurship and innovation, and the socio-political frameworks surrounding media in diverse societies. #emmaLeeuwarden, it's a wrap! We look back on a fantastic conference. Thank you to the incredible EMMA community for making our annual event such a great success. Exciting news for 2025: #EmmaRome will be held in beautiful Rome, Italy, from June 3-5, hosted by Luiss Business School. The summer school will take place in Brussels, Belgium, organized by Vrije Universiteit Brussel in September 2025. We will be providing more information soon. At the closing dinner, Prof. John Oliver from Bournemouth University received the 2024 emma Award, recognizing his outstanding contribution to our scholarship and community. The Best Paper Award 2024 went to Brigitte Dekker, Stephanie Koornneef, and Hans Van Kranenburg for their paper, "Categorizing the Future: A Typology of Digital Multinational Corporations." Congratulations to all!
