  • ?? Mercury in cosmetics is still a serious threat! ???? ? We just submitted our input on the evaluation of the Cosmetics Products Regulation (CPR), focusing on the ongoing risks of mercury in cosmetics, the digital transition, and regulatory exemptions. While the CPR has helped keep harmful substances out of cosmetics, illegal mercury-added products are still being sold—especially online.?? ? Our investigations with the Zero Mercury Working Group found that 31 out of 65 suspect creams purchased in the EU & UK contained mercury levels exceeding the legal limit of 1ppm! ??? ? We’re calling for:?? ?? Stronger enforcement to close online sales loopholes and stop illegal products.?? ?? A review of exemptions for mercury in eye cosmetics.?? ?? Better oversight of mercury compounds used in cosmetics.?? ? A recent *European Parliament draft report raises concerns about unsafe products entering the EU via online platforms. But it doesn’t go far enough—platforms must be held accountable. The CPR revision is our chance to fix this.?? ? • ??TIME TO TAX THE RICH-?With challenges and crises coming out of Europe's ears, one of the key tools immediately available is money. European leaders must decide whether to cling to outdated fiscal rules or embrace bold public investment. Even Germany, once a champion of frugality, has loosened its debt constraints to fund defense, infrastructure, and climate action—raising the question: if the current fiscal rules are repeatedly suspended, are they truly fit for the 21st century?? ? With environmental disasters costing the EU billions and geopolitical instability rising, security isn’t just about military spending; it's about tackling climate change, social inequality, and economic resilience. Meanwhile, corporate power and deregulation continue to concentrate wealth, leaving ordinary citizens to bear the burden of austerity. The solution? A fairer tax system that ensures the wealthy and corporations contribute their fair share. The EU must act now to modernize its fiscal policies and invest in a future that benefits all, not just the few. ? • People deserve to know what their governments are, and aren’t, doing ?? Each day across Europe, governments are failing to put environmental laws into practice, costing EU taxpayers billions in health costs and environmental damage ?????? Right now, people and their elected officials in the European Parliament cannot see what’s being done about it, as the process is shrouded in secrecy ?? To improve the implementation of vital laws, and the law making process itself, we need full transparency.

    • "Without implementation, EU environmental laws cannot fulfil their purpose. And without full transparency proper implementation will remain out of reach."
  • ?? Europe is drowning in packaging waste, but governments have the power to turn the tide! Despite its shortcomings, the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation gives national, regional, and local authorities key tools to cut record levels of waste?? ?????? ???????????? ???? ???????????????????? ???? ???? ???????????? ???? ?????? ???? ?????????? ??????????????. Greenpeace has been ordered to pay over €609 million in damages to oil giant Energy Transfer - simply for joining a protest against a pipeline, alongside 500 other groups. This is part of a dangerous trend where major polluters weaponise the legal system to silence critics and crush dissent. The verdict is a devastating blow to Greenpeace, a direct attack on freedom of expression and the right to protest, and a chilling warning to all who dare to challenge polluting industries. We stand in solidarity with Greenpeace and every environmental and human rights defender facing legal intimidation. We will continue to work with The Coalition against SLAPPs in Europe (CASE) to expose and fight back against these bullying tactics. #ImWithGreenpeace #WeWillNotBeSilenced Greenpeace European Unit ? • ?? Europe can't face extraordinary times with ordinary fiscal rules ? ????????????’?? ???????????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????? ?????? ?????? ???????????????????? ???? ?????? ???????? ??????????????. Instead of forcing trade-offs between defence, climate action, and social protection, the EU must adopt a modern framework that enables strategic public investment across all crises. ? ???????????????? ???? ?????? ???????? ?????????? ??????????????. Climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequalities are pressing geopolitical threats. In just two years, extreme weather events have cost the EU €162 billion – and the risks will only grow. Even the World Economic Forum identifies environmental threats as the most severe global risks over the next decade. ? ?? ?????????????? ???????????????????? ???? ???????????? ?????????? ???? ?????? ????????????. Allowing more defence spending without broader reform risks deepening economic and social divides. Some Member States may cut essential public services to finance military budgets, while diverting EU cohesion funds to defence would create a two-speed Europe. ? ???? ???????? ?? ???????? ???????????????????? ???????? ?????? ?? ?????????????????????? ????????????. ??Green and social investments deliver a triple dividend: curbing emissions, boosting economies, and reducing long-term risks. ??As the EU’s flagship funding instrument for environmental and climate action, the LIFE Programme needs to be fundamentally strengthened. ??The EU should establish an Investment Facility with clear social and environmental conditions to bridge the public investment gap. ??New revenue sources must be fair – focusing on extreme wealth and windfall profits, including in the fossil fuel sector. The real question isn’t if we should invest but how and where. We call on EU leaders at the ongoing European Council to seize the opportunity to fundamentally modernise fiscal policy to ensure that Europe is equipped to tackle the poly-crisis we face. • It is time for the EU to act on #AnimalWelfare ?? ?? Despite what we're led to believe, in Europe, largely hidden on factory farms, animals are being treated very badly. Not only is this model of factory farming at the root of industrial-scale animal suffering - it is also fuelling a number of separate growing crises for our health and our environment. On top of this, the inaction from EU policymakers to implement the changes demanded by people is putting democracy at risk. Next week, we're unveiling a photography exhibition in the European Parliament that visually connects these overlapping issues. Alternatives are available - a brighter future is possible! Read more about the exhibition and what it'll feature ?? https://lnkd.in/eX54RhHh #AnimalWelfare #StopFactoryFarming #EndFactoryFarming #PhotographyExhibition #WaterPollution #OneHealth Featured image credit: Timo Stammberger

  • Let's take down the lies about the new building law—brick by brick. From Italy to Poland, the new EU law for buildings has faced relentless attacks fueled by misinformation. The gas lobby and other powerful interests want you to believe that decarbonising our homes is impossible or too expensive. But inaction means more drafty homes, skyrocketing heating bills, and prolonged reliance on fossil gas (guess who benefits). Don’t fall for it. We have the tools to make homes, offices, and public buildings zero-emission by 2050. This benefits everyone, and the new Energy Performance of Buildings Directive provides the roadmap to get us there. #EPBD #Heating #RenewableHeat #BuildingRenovation #Disinformation

The EU’s steel and metals action plan lacks teeth!??? The European Commission has just unveiled a new roadmap for the metals industries, one that falls short of concrete action and bold targets to shift steelmakers away from coal-based production. ? While the action plan rightly recognises that ?????????????????????????????? and ???????????????????????are crucial for the industrial transition and cost reduction, it fails to set clear targets to ensure industries follow this path. ? Who benefits from this approach? Mainly the transition laggards ?? ? Half of Europe’s steel production still rely on coal, and major steelworks continue to delay the adoption of renewable-based technologies ?? ? Words with little action are meaningless. We need concrete targets for recycled steel and clear conditions that require the phase-out of fossil fuels for every euro of public money given to industries. ? The steel transition needs real commitment and clear signals now: ?? Stop investing in coal-based technologies ?? Ramp up steel scrap recycling ? Upgrade steel facilities to support green and secondary steelmaking ?? Ensure workers are fully supported in the transition Stéphane Séjourné, Beyond Fossil Fuels, Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, E3G, EPICO KlimaInnovation, SteelWatch, Sandbag
