As we approach tomorrow's World Day for Glaciers ?????, we want to recognise the critical role #glaciers play as guardians of the Earth. These natural formations shape landscapes, provide essential freshwater resources, and help regulate global sea levels. Recent observations of shifting snow patterns in Europe have spurred unprecedented scientific collaboration, fostering global unity around a shared objective: safeguarding our glaciers. In doing so, we ensure the protection of #water security??, coastal regions ??, natural environments ??, and the #biodiversity ?? that connects all life on Earth. Join us in emphasising the importance of glaciers and contribute to efforts aimed at preserving them. #WorldGlaciersDay #WorldGlacierDay

??Stronger together: EEA is enhancing its cooperation with EIB & Eurostat ? Today, our Executive Director, Leena Yla-Mononen, and a delegation of our colleagues, visited the European statistical office, Eurostat, and the European Investment Bank (EIB).? ? ?? With the European Investment Bank (EIB), our cooperation, formalised through last year’s Memorandum of Understanding, is growing. As the EU’s Climate Bank, EIB plays a crucial role in financing the transition to a green and competitive Europe. Through deeper technical and policy dialogue, we aim to align investment with robust environmental knowledge—ensuring that financing decisions contribute meaningfully to the Green Deal’s success. ? ?? With Eurostat, we are advancing data-driven policymaking. Our work together goes beyond regular data flows—it includes innovative solutions like the Copernicus programme, supporting new ways to track Europe’s environmental and climate performance. As the EEA evolves, with a new structure and service-oriented approach, we are committed to making reporting simpler and data exchange more efficient for all stakeholders. ? By strengthening these collaborations, we are not just sharing knowledge—we are actively shaping a more sustainable, resilient, and informed Europe. Looking forward to what’s next! Dr. Riyong K. Global Recycling Day: Closing the loop ?? Recycling is a key pillar of the circular economy—it keeps materials in use, reduces waste, and cuts resource extraction. At the EEA, we monitor Europe's progress in recycling rates, material recovery, and circular solutions. While recycling is improving, we need to go further: better collection, smarter design, and higher-quality recycling can help us close the loop. How can we boost recycling in Europe? Share your ideas below! ?? #GlobalRecyclingDay #WorldRecyclingDay #Recycling #CircularEconomy #Sustainability

This year's World Consumer Rights Day focuses on making sustainable choices accessible to everyone, while extending the life of products we already own. Did you know that in the EU the average lifespan of cars increased by 10% over the past decade, and household appliances are lasting 2% longer? These small victories matter enormously in our fight against environmental crises. Every day, billions of consumers make choices that directly shape our planet's future—yet sustainable options often remain out of reach for many. Consumers International, the entity that organises this world day, unites 200 Members with international organisations, governments, businesses, and civil society, who are calling for stronger consumer protection that makes sustainable choices available, accessible, and affordable for all. Join the movement this #WorldConsumerRightsDay and share: What sustainable choices would you make if they were more accessible? #SustainableLifestyles #ConsumerRights #WCRD2025

Our EU-Hydro product is a great way to highlight the International Day of Action for Rivers. We're currently reviewing and updating EU-Hydro, with the new version expected in 2026.? Learn more about the product here: https://lnkd.in/dAyQGC3q #ActionForRivers #internationaldayofactionforrivers
Today is the International Day of Action for Rivers! ?? Take a look at the longest river in ???? Italy – the Po ?? Rising in the Cottian Alps and emptying into the Adriatic Sea, the Po’s drainage basin covers over 70,000 km2, creating Italy’s most fertile plain. This image of northern Italy, produced with data from the Copernicus EEA Land Monitoring Service Hydro River Network Database, shows the Po River and its many tributaries. Copernicus data is key to monitoring water bodies around the ?? world, delivering essential insights for their conservation and sustainable management. In ???? Europe, we preserve our rivers because we know they play an important role #ForNature, for agriculture, industry, and wildlife. That’s why our #EUBiodiversity Strategy aims to restore 25,000 km of free-flowing rivers by 2030 ?? https://europa.eu/!NXhMKJ

Fossil fuels are non-renewable and major contributors to climate change and pollution. Despite global and EU efforts to phase out subsidies, support for coal, gas, and oil remains high—reaching €111 billion in the EU in 2023, with nearly half having no set end date. While governments work on long-term solutions, individuals can also make a difference.
