??? Copper production is energy-intensive, and access to clean, affordable electricity is crucial for the competitiveness and decarbonisation of copper producers. The??????????? ???????????????????? ???????? and the ???????????????????? ???????????? ???????????? ???????? acknowledge this challenge. Still, the proposed measures are unlikely to deliver the necessary cost reductions in the short term. To ensure Europe remains competitive in strategic industries like copper, additional steps should be considered: ???? ?????????????????????? ?????????????????????? ?????????? ??????????????????: The upcoming Clean Industrial Deal State Aid framework should include transitional measures to ensure electro-intensive industries can access electricity at internationally competitive prices. ???????????????? ?????? ?????????? ???????????????? ???????????????????? (????????): To be impactful, this must include help for baseload consumers to manage profiling costs from variable renewables. ?????????????????????????? ?????? ???????????????? ???????????? ??????????:?The ETS indirect cost compensation scheme must continue for copper smelting and refining—and be extended to copper mining, aligning with the Critical Raw Materials Act. ?????????????????????? ?????????????????????? ???????????? ??????????????: Further assess solutions to decouple fossil fuel prices from electricity prices, reducing costs for all consumers without relying on public subsidies. The transition to a clean economy must go hand-in-hand with securing industrial competitiveness. It was an honor to present here in Toronto at #PDAC2025 before the Mines Ministries of the Americas Conference (CAMMA), where I had the opportunity to share the work we do at the International Copper Association. Our mission to promote copper, protect its markets, and defend its demand has never been more critical. We shared with ministers how copper plays a fundamental role in advancing human development, supporting local communities, and driving innovation across industries. For every major step forward in human history, copper has been there, and today, its importance is greater than ever. #Copper is essential to the global megatrends shaping our future: electrification, digitalization, urbanization, and beyond. It remains a key enabler as the world scales up solutions to address climate change, energy transition, and technological innovation. What’s more, the responsible production of copper is becoming a key decision factor for fabricators and OEMs when selecting materials for their products. Meeting growing global demand will require close collaboration between industry and government. We need supportive policies, regional cooperation, and strategies that improve mining, refining, recycling, and access to copper in all its forms. By working together, we can lower barriers to production and ensure copper continues to power critical sectors, from energy to AI to infrastructure. Thank you to the Ministerios de Minería de las Américas (#CAMMA) for hosting this important event, and special thanks to Roberto Sarudiansky and Rodrigo Urquiza, Ministra Aurora Williams at Ministerio de Minería, Ministro Jorge Montero del Ministerio de Energía y Minas y Jorge Cantallopts for your great presentations and valuable insights. Collaboration across the mining sector will be essential to create the conditions our industry needs to thrive.

I can't wait to be at #Coiltech in Augsburg on 26-27 March and engage with the coil winding value chain, from #copper mining and processing to manufacturers of #motors, #generators and #transformers. Copper is a key material for energy-efficient, resource-efficient and reliable motors, generators and transformers, that are key components of #grids and #electrification. This industry relies on copper and has many questions about copper supply, circularity and carbon footprint. The good news? ?? #Copper is a strategic material for the EU with a strong domestic value chain from #mining, refining and fabrication to #recycling. The EU copper supply chain and the copper industry competitiveness are supported by the Critical Raw Materials Act #CRMA and the #CleanIndustrialDeal because copper is a backbone of the economy. ?? #Electrification is another pillar of the #CleanIndustrialDeal, and it will require a lot of efficient motors, generators and transformers made with copper. ?? The industry is investing to ensure reliable supply of sustainable copper. I'm looking forward to discuss this and more with end users from Elia Group, TenneT, Réseau de Transport d'électricité, Siemens Energy, Hitachi Energy, SGB-SMIT Group, thyssenkrupp and with the involvement of our members KGHM Polska Mied? S.A., Boliden and Aurubis More info : https://lnkd.in/dEeBEDs2 ?? Kudos to my colleague Fernando Nu?o for building this part of the programme!

#CleanIndustrialDeal : the EU has a plan, #metals and #copper are part of it! Yesterday, I attended the European Industry Summit with representatives from our members Aurubis and Boliden, a strong Eurometaux (European Metals Association) delegation and 400 industry leaders from various sectors. We discussed the freshly adopted Clean Industrial Deal with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other Commissioners. ?? The message is clear: #DeliverTheDeal ?? ?? Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stressed the key role of metals like #copper, notably to support #electrification and produce the necessary grid and clean technologies, such as #cables #transformers, #motors, #heatpumps and #EVs. ?? One pillar of the Clean Industrial Deal is to enhance the strategic autonomy: ?? boost circularity - a key advantage of #copper ?? implement the #CRMA to develop domestic mining, processing and recycling - first list of strategic projects coming soon ?? develop global partnerships - let's scale up Global Gateway ?? We support this strong attention to metals, and the choice made to streamline the EU legislative framework. ?? Yet, while the cost of energy and decarbonisation are well-recognized issues, we feel there are not enough solutions for the short-term massive competitiveness challenge of electro-intensive industries. ?? We need a strong Steel AND METALS Action Plan and will continue the dialogue with the EU Commission. Stay tuned for a more detailed assessment of the proposals by International Copper Association Europe. ?? Thanks to Cefic and the #AntwerpDeclaration team for the excellent organisation!

? ?????? ?????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ???????? ???????????? ????????????'?? ?????? ?????????????????? ???????????? Europe's energy transition depends on securing its own raw materials in Europe and abroad: wind turbines, solar panels, EVs, and battery storage all require metals. ?? To safeguard Europe's clean tech ambitions, the Clean Industrial Deal must:? ? Ensure access to globally competitive and decarbonised energy for metals production. ? Ensure a balance between decarbonisation policies and competitiveness ambitions to avoid contradictory objectives? ? Align with the Critical Raw Materials Act's priorities to facilitate metals circularity and to support investments in the transformation of our sector. As put forward by Quentin de Hults, Director General of International Copper Association Europe: "The Clean Industrial Deal must support the competitiveness of copper and other strategic raw material production in the EU, by ensuring access to competitively priced clean energy, facilitating recycling, and streamlining legislation in line with the Critical Raw Materials Act."
