    2023 was one of the worst years for wildfires in the EU in over two decades.? ?? ?? Forest fires affected more than 500,000 hectares of natural lands,? ?? The ???? Alexandroupolis region fire was the largest single wildfire on record in the EU,? ?? ‘Megafires’, impossible to control with traditional means, are becoming more common.? ? The increased frequency and intensity of wildfires is an evident effect of climate change, which is?driving extended fire seasons and causing fires in areas that were not usually affected.? ?? Although 2024 saw a downturn in EU wildfires, damage remains above the 10-year average.? ? ?? After Spain activated the #EUCivilProtection Mechanism in response to devastating floods, Portugal and France swiftly stepped in to help.? ? ?? Over 150 team members and 60 vehicles joined forces with Spanish authorities, working tirelessly to clear streets of debris, pump out water and mud, remove vehicles, and transport rubble.? ?     Africa's clean energy journey is picking up speed. We are proud to be part of it ?? With President Cyril Ramaphosa, we launched ‘Scaling up Renewables in Africa’ campaign to attract global investment for renewable energy, in line with the COP28 goal of tripling capacity by 2030. Key Points: ?? ???????????? ??????????????????????????: International cooperation among governments and investors is essential to mobilise significant funding for Africa’s energy transition. ?? ?????? ???????????? ???????????????????? ??????????: A Global Energy Transition Forum will unite leaders and drive commitments to enhance renewable energy efforts. ?? ????????????’?? ??????????????????: Holding 60% of the world’s best solar resources but receiving only 3% of global investments, Africa must be included in the shift towards clean energy.
