This is a momentous and dangerous time for Europe. ? ? We are ready to step up.? ? Today, ahead of the extraordinary meeting of EU leaders in Brussels, President von der Leyen presented the ReArm Europe Plan —a bold initiative to mobilise up to €800 billion for European security. This plan will enable EU countries to: ? ? ?? Significantly increase their defence spending in respect of budget rules. ? ?? Access €150 billion in loans for the joint defence projects and to step up support to Ukraine. ? ?? Leverage EU funds for defence-related investments. ? ?? Attract private capital to strengthen our defence industrial base. ? ? We are in an era of rearmament. And Europe is ready to massively boost its defence spending. ? ? Both to respond to the short-term urgency to support Ukraine, and to address the long-term necessity of taking much greater responsibility for our own European security.
