On Saturday morning, the participants of the #35ECSconference took an exciting tour along the beautiful streets of the historical city centre of Catania. Starting from Cathedral Square, passing through the open-air fish market, and entering underground lava caves, they had a small taste of the many beauties of this wonderful city. Here are some numbers on the just-ended amazing Conference! 436 attendances in 2 days of 17 parallel workshops, 580 registered participants in 3 days conference, 864 people gravitating at the event among participants, collaborators, volunteers, and special guests. 66 countries were present, from across the European continent, and also from Australia, Brazil, California, Canada, China, Colombia, Greenland, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, United States, Tanzania, Texas, and Turkey. We received over 450 abstract submissions. After the review process, we accepted as public presentations 42 orals, 39 short talks, and 309 posters, distributed in 10 main thematic sessions. More than 20 videos were evaluated for the movie night, maintaining 15 of them in the program. Also, 10 student awards and 28 travel grants were delivered. A million thanks is not enough to recognize the immense voluntary work of all those who made the success of this conference possible, especially the Local Organizing Committee. The 35th Annual Conference of the ECS has been realized thanks to more than 40 student volunteers; collaborators of the Marecamp hosting organization as the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences of the University of Catania, and the Politecnico del Mare di Catania "Duca degli Abruzzi" high school; the patronages of the Department of Mediterranean Fisheries (Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fisheries of the Sicilian Region), the Municipality and the Metropolitan City of Catania, and the University of Catania; the supporters Chelonia Limited - Wildlife Acoustic Monitoring; ACCOBAMS - Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and contiguous Atlantic area; Communication Technology; co.l.mar. ; Sustainability, Marine Science and Engineering, Diversity, and Animals journals of the publisher Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI); Hygiene and Food Laboratory (LIAA) of the Department of Medical, Surgical and Advanced Technological Sciences 'G. We are ready to start a fantastic week! The ECS registration desk will be open on the 8th and 9th in only one of the workshop venues at the University of Catania, 8:30 am - 6:00 pm. Each of the 3 conference days will be opened by a keynote speaker. Francesc Gulland will open the first day, after the open ceremony, by comparing three cases of marine mammals and human interaction. Bruno Cozzi will introduce the second day, and the audience will explore open unsolved questions in dolphin and whale anatomy. Philip Hammond will open the last day illustrating long-term studies of marine mammal populations to improve ecological understanding and inform conservation.
