EuroECMO-COVID #ECMO for #COVID19 from 2nd wave to end of #pandemic ?? prospective, observational study including adults requiring respiratory #ECLS for COVID-19 ?? > 3.8 K patients from 98 centres in 21 countries Pandemic led to a marked increase in #ARDS cases globally and to prominent role of ECLS: ?? in-hospital mortality 55.9% (increased compared with first wave), with 81.2% deaths occurring during ECMO ?? data from second wave onwards supported role of older age, pre-ECMO hemodynamic instability (inotropes & vasopressors), longer time from intubation to ECMO initiation, co-morbidities & complications, and configuration change, as contributors to in-hospital mortality ?? favourable 6-month post-discharge outcome: among in-hospital survivors, 99.7% were alive at 6 months follow-up, but many had dyspnoea, cardiac or neurocognitive symptoms.
