Our Presidency meeting with Krajowa Izba Gospodarcza (Polish Chamber of Commerce) allowed leaders from across the European #chambernetwork to exchange on the economic and geopolitical situation with the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union. EU measures to enable #businesses to drive growth and economic security are more important than ever.

Today’s #omnibus proposal on #CSDDD, #CSRD, #Taxonomy, and #CBAM takes a small but positive step in reducing the trickle-down effect of ESG-related burdens on smaller #businesses. To drive sustainable and digital transformation, European businesses must be able to divert time and resources from reporting to productivity, investment, and innovation. ?? What SMEs need: ? Legal certainty with clear, practical, and proportionate rules ? Reduced reporting obligations & fewer data points ? Longer transition periods As key drivers of Europe’s economy, #SMEs must not be weighed down by compliance at the expense of growth. Until the finalisation of the omnibus negotiations, we urge legislators to avoid new burdens and ensure coherence with the initiative’s objectives.

The #EUAIAct is rapidly taking shape, and its effective implementation, alongside the #AIContinentActionPlan and #ApplyAIStrategy, will play a pivotal role in empowering #businesses to lead in the development of cutting-edge AI technologies and applications. ? European businesses are grappling with key challenges, such as a shortage of AI talent, insufficient infrastructure, and lack of data. ? To overcome these hurdles, Eurochambres has released a new position paper with ?? recommendations: ?Increasing public-private collaborations ?Expanding access to advanced computing infrastructure for businesses ?Investing in AI education and training ?Providing targeted support for AI applications across specific industries ? The European Commission #omnibus proposal must deliver practical #sustainability #requirements for businesses under #CSRD, #CSDDD, & the #Taxonomy Regulation. #SMEs should not become compliance & reporting machines. They should be machines for growth & new jobs!

Ahead of the European Commission's proposal, the first #omnibus package, must: ?Simplify #ESG requirements and deliver impactful improvements for Europe’s #businesses. ?Unleash a business-driven green transition, rather than submerging #entrepreneurs in reporting requirements.

My main messages during a lively discussion on the latest Euronews #BrusselsMyLove: - The #EU cannot regulate its way to net zero, so the #GreenDeal must be recalibrated to allow #businesses breathing space to innovate and invest. - The European Commission is right to conduct a #simplification review of #ESG and other areas of legislation that have turned #SMEs into reporting machines. - Trump's mooted 'reciprocal' #tariffs are bad news for the global economy and rules-based #trade.
