???Making the Europeana Data Model a better fit for documentation of 3d objects ???We are excited to announce the publication of a new article compiled by the 3D working group led by the Europeana Initiative. Accompanying the efforts to enhance the production, (re-)use and publication of 3D digital assets in Europeana and the common European data sp ace for cultural heritage (#DS4CH), a team of experts involved in leading 3D digitisation projects such as #5Dculture and EUreka3D has teamed up and now published their common findings. ???The report examines how the Europeana Data Model (EDM) can be adapted to better support the documentation, sharing, and reuse of 3D cultural heritage objects. As 3D digitisation becomes increasingly vital for cultural heritage preservation and innovation, the EDM needs to evolve to accommodate richer metadata, paradata, and more complex digital representations. ????Authors: Antoine Isaac (Europeana), Kate Fernie (CARARE), Valentina Bachi (#Photoconsortium), Eleftheria Tsoupra (Europeana), Marco Medici (Inception), Henk Alkemade (CARARE), Sander Münster (Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Time Machine Organisation), Valentine Charles (Europeana) and Lianne Heslinga (CARARE). ???Key highlights: ??Enhancing Metadata for 3D Models: The report identifies areas where EDM can be extended to represent 3D models, Digital Twins, and paradata more effectively, ensuring enriched documentation for future reuse. ???Paradata as a Priority: Paradata – details about the creation and context of 3D models – is emphasized as essential for ensuring transparency and authenticity. ???Collaboration for High-Quality Data: Recommendations include building capacity across cultural heritage institutions to produce and share high-quality 3D content with robust metadata. ???More information: https://lnkd.in/d4gxMnVr
