Exploring Innovation in Forestry and the Forest-Based Sector ???? As part of EUFORE, we have carried out a comprehensive review of innovation in forestry and the forest-based sector in the EU. While we prepare the full results, here are some key insights from our analysis. ? ?? Growing Research Interest: Innovation-related studies have significantly increased in recent decades. ?? Literature mainly explores innovations in forest products and the social and policy aspects of forestry, with less attention on forest management and ecology. Topics like digitalization and wood construction are prominent in papers on forest-based sector technologies. ? Studies on the social aspects of forests and forest policy specifically address innovation development and the circular economy. ? We have also identified the top five countries that published the most innovation research (by first author) ???

Thank you to all organisers of the 6th Forest Innovation Workshop for having us with you! In our session Ivana ?ivojinovi? and Stojan Ivanovi? took the audience through the main results of the forestry and the forest-based sector innovation review. Following their presentation on the open innovation ecosystems and the overlapping roles in research and innovation, the audience engaged in a discussion on how innovations are currently supported and how the main barriers could be overcome. Well today is the day when the 6th Forest Innovation Workshop in Brussels starts! Tomorrow, on 12 February, we will hop in the driver's seat as Ivana ?ivojinovi? leads the session on Driving Innovation in Forestry: Barriers, Solutions, and Future Opportunities. There will be a short intro to our project and the methods we have applied in the innovation review we carried out. Ivana will also lead the audience into exploring opportunities through the Open Innovation Ecosystem within EUFORE. We hope those present in Brussels will be actively involved in the discussions! EUFORE will be joining the 6th Forest Innovation Workshop in February with a dedicated session. Our EUFORE session will focus at?Driving Innovation in Forestry. We will present findings from the EUFORE background studies on the key factors affecting innovation in forestry and the forest-based sector, based on interviews and surveys. We aim to spark a conversation on the barriers and solutions to foster innovation. We have established collaboration with three projects and we are very much looking forward to joint ventures! FOREST4EU Project is an European innovation partnership network promoting operational group dedicated to forestry and agroforestry. The project aims to connect existing Operational Groups (OGs) from different countries around Europe, in order to favour the transfer of knowledge and best practices between experts in this field. Our collaboration will include exchange in data collection and analysis methods. FOREST4EU’s work with EIP-AGRI Operational Groups at the local level will be providing us valuable insights into innovation activities in Europe. digimedfor is developing innovative digital solutions to improve Mediterranean forest management. Their goal is to enhance the sustainability and traceability of wood production and optimize ecosystem services. Our collaboration will include knowledge exchange and joint communication. TRANSFORMIT Project aims to improve and showcase the effectiveness of Integrative Forest Management as a viable pathway for merging biodiversity conservation and societal demands. By integrating both practical and scientific knowledge, they will stipulate collaboration, mutual learning and new synergies amongst science, policy, and practice. We will work together with TRANSFORMIT on establishing new synergies and learning from each other.
