A European Food Supply Chain to Reduce GHG Emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
关于我们
The ENOUGH project has set objectives to address and reduce the emissions of the food sector as food systems are globally responsible for 20 to almost 40 % of total greenhouse gas emissions. The project will provide tools and methods to contribute to the EU Farm to Fork strategy to achieve climate neutral food businesses.

?? Check out this video from our Norwegian dairy demonstrator R?rosmeieriet to learn more about how the ENOUGH project improves energy efficiency in dairy production!
?? Driving Energy Efficiency in Dairy Production ??? Excited to share insights from a case study where our researchers have been working with a dairy to enhance their energy efficiency and sustainability efforts. ? ?? Project Goal: Reducing energy consumption and flexibility. Dairy production is highly energy-intensive, especially in heating and cooling stages. By carefully monitoring and analysing energy usage, we aimed to identify key areas where sustainable technologies could make a big impact.? ? ?? Key Steps Taken:? 1.?Energy Monitoring: Implemented advanced metering to track energy usage across various systems and identify inefficiencies.? 2.?Thermal Energy Storage (TES) Assessment: Evaluated the potential of TES systems to support the energy system in high demand times. Thereby, we can meet peak energy demands, increase energy efficiency and reduce costs!? 3.?High-Temperature Heat Pump Feasibility: Investigated integrating a high-temperature heat pump to increase energy efficiency. This will reduce energy consumption and operating costs!? ?? The Impact: This project paves the way for substantial cost savings, lower carbon emissions, and a more resilient energy profile for dairies. We’re excited to take these insights forward and continue innovating sustainable practices within the food and feed sector.? Refrigeration as part of the solutions:
I recently read that private plane travel by the super-rich emits 500 times more CO2 than the average person—or as much as 50,000 people from Central Africa. It’s hard not to feel despair and wish that more people would take climate change seriously. But what can we do about it? I’m attending COP29 in Baku, hoping to find some answers and optimism. On Saturday, my first day at the venue, I immersed myself in the event "Sustainable Cooling in a Warming World" at the UK Pavilion, organized by Graeme Maidment FInstR. During the session, UK Minister for Climate Kerry McCarthy opened with an important observation: the critical role of cooling in the fight against climate change is not receiving enough attention. An important observation! We heard compelling examples of where cooling is essential—Dr Xinfang Wang mentioned both the food and vaccine sectors, while Paul Durrant highlighted the urgency of developing innovations globally, not just in selected regions. With rising temperatures, we will need better systems and new ideas. Collaboration and innovation in low-income countries will be particularly vital to ensuring sustainable progress. In summary: Energy-efficient and environmentally friendly cooling solutions are more critical than ever, and we need innovative approaches from all over the world to address this challenge. ?? Thermal Energy Storage Workshop: Insights and Innovations in Trondheim We’ve just wrapped up two highly productive days at the Thermal Energy Storage (TES) Workshop in Trondheim, a key milestone for advancing energy-efficient solutions under the ENOUGH project! The event brought together leading minds to tackle the challenges and opportunities of TES, and we’re proud of the impactful contributions from our team: ?? Xinfang from the University of Bergen (UoB) presented a forward-thinking business model for TES as a service, delving into its potential for commercialization and expanding market adoption. ?? Francesco from the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) shared innovative strategies for integrating TES into transport vehicles, alongside an update on the project’s demonstration case, showcasing real-world applications of these technologies. ?? Lukas from SINTEF Ocean provided a theoretical analysis of a Combined TES (CTES) system integrated with CO? refrigeration, offering valuable insights into energy efficiency improvements. These presentations reflect the ENOUGH project’s commitment to driving innovation and collaboration toward decarbonizing the food chain through advanced technologies like TES. A huge thank you to everyone who made this workshop a success and to all participants for contributing to such engaging discussions! Together, we’re building a sustainable future. ?? ?? ?? ENOUGH Project at the 16th Gustav Lorentzen Conference on Natural Refrigerants! ???? From August 12 to 14, 2024, the University of Maryland hosted the 16th IIR Gustav Lorentzen Conference, gathering 250 global experts to discuss cutting-edge natural refrigerant technologies. A major highlight was the promotion of key projects like ENOUGH, SophiA, and INDEE+, all focused on advancing energy-efficient refrigeration and heat pump solutions. During workshops, ENOUGH stood out with its real-world applications in food preservation, healthcare, and beyond. The IIR Director General, Yosr Allouche, shared important insights on the emissions database of EU food supply chains and co-authored a research paper on innovative refrigerants alongside colleagues from NTNU and CERN. The event was an outstanding platform for scientific exchange and collaboration, and we look forward to the next Gustav Lorentzen Conference in New Zealand in 2026!
