Orbán and Meloni are all in for climate action - unlike Trump. Climate change is real - and we better move fast and exploit the opportunity. That's the view European far-right leaders have brought forward at COP. ???? Hungary?has set a net-zero emissions goal. “We can balance ambition with pragmatism, establishing Europe as a global leader in climate action without compromising the prosperity of our industries and agriculture,” Orbán said at the ongoing #COP29 negotiations. ???? Italy?have said strong climate action is needed because it’s a serious threat. And an economic opportunity. Europeans don't seem to align with the 'drill, baby, drill' Trump policy. In fact, Italy and Hungary have little oil or gas - so expanding renewables is a matter of national energy security. via AP ? https://lnkd.in/d37eaWxs #Netzero #EnergyTransition

??The cleantech race is on, and the UK became a more attractive investment destination. ????The UK just unveiled its new emission reduction goal during hashtag #COP29 at Baku, announcing a 81% cut by 2035. In the aftermath of Trump’s win, the UK government seems to be dead set on headlining the cleantech race. ?? “The race is on for the clean energy jobs of the future, the economy of tomorrow,” said Starmer. “ I don't want to be in the middle of the pack - I want to get ahead of the game". ????At the same time, the EU is showing up at Baku all but certain to miss their emission reduction goal deadline. “It’s basically impossible”, according to a senior Polish government official. ?? “I would just sincerely hope that they tone down their whole international leadership narrative slightly if they miss the deadline in February”, says Linda Kalcher, executive director at Strategic Perspectives. Road transport is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the EU. Its emissions have been growing, unlike other sectors including industry & agriculture, says Transport & Environment (T&E). But this is set to change as the ???? plans to phase out the sale of new petrol cars from 2035. Despite heavy push-back from the car industry, the Financial Times reports that Commissioner-designate Wopke Hoekstra will argue that the phase-out will: ? strengthen EU competitiveness in the sector ? help the EU reach its emissions reduction goals Will Hoekstra repeat these messages tomorrow? IEA energy outlook ?? World energy markets are fragile & the macroeconomic mood is downbeat, says the International Energy Agency (IEA). Global greenhouse gas emissions still haven't peaked – and the energy sector is a major emitter. ?? But there is hope! In its international energy outlook, the IEA points to the surge in solar PV and electric ??. And a promising 40% rise in clean energy investments since 2020. ?? It’s not only the drive to bring down emissions that’s growing clean tech – there’s a strong economic case, not to mention jobs and energy security too. The momentum behind the clean energy economy is “enough to produce a peak in demand for coal, oil and natural gas this decade”, says the IEA. The IEA’s World Energy Outlook shows the benefits for Europe to stay on top of its clean tech game – for the climate, our energy security, jobs and our future. ? https://lnkd.in/dcQzTVP7? #Energysecurity #EuropeanEconomy #Decarbonization #CleanEnergy #CleanTech

Can Europe compete with the US and China? Mario Draghi thinks so, but it will take courage ???? If the EU is to “preserve its social model” in the future, “massive” investments are needed, says Mario Draghi, former italian PM and former president of the European Central Bank. To do so, he suggests the EU should focus on three main areas of action: ?? 1. Closing the innovation gap with America. “Many European entrepreneurs prefer to seek financing from American venture capitalists and scale up in the American market.” ?? 2. Combining decarbonisation with competitiveness. “Unless Europe better transfers the benefits of clean energy to end-users, energy prices will continue to dampen growth.” ?? 3. Increasing security and reducing dependencies. “The EU should act like other major economies and build a genuine EU “foreign economic policy” Via The Economist #EuropeanEconomy #Innovation #Decarbonization #Competitiveness #CleanEnergy #EconomicPolicy. https://lnkd.in/eXca2F4i

???? A Russia-free energy strategy to compete with China and the US????? "Over the past five years, the EU has invested so much political capital in the European Green Pact that it cannot afford to fail. Now is not the time to backtrack, but to complete it.”, Thomas Pellerin-Carlin, member of the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), says. Pellerin-Carlin also spoke of the need for a new energy security architecture that would allow Europe to become independent of Russian energy, betting on local production, optimization of electricity grids and reduction of energy demand. ?? Clean energy will be key not only to energy security, but also to ensuring Europe's long-term prosperity. "Solar panels, wind turbines, heat pumps, batteries, those are not only the equipment that are vital to secure that humankind can still prosper on Planet Earth, they are also the sectors that are critical to ensure Europe’s prosperity in this century." ?? ??? #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #EuropeanGreenPact #EnergyFuture #CleanTechnologies #Innovation. via Euronews: https://lnkd.in/dmXuwkgi
