The ETSU/NORC Rural Health Research Center’s mission is to conduct robust rural health services research that informs strategies and recommendations for policy makers, rural health care providers, and rural communities to improve health and well-being by improving access to health care and behavioral health services and advancing health. Research staff contribute to policy solutions that are responsive to challenges rural communities face in accessing rural public health, health care and social services, including workforce shortages, lack of transportation, long wait times for appointments, payment and reimbursement challenges, social service availability, limited specialty services, and limited rural-focused research to understand rural population health needs. Underpinning all the center’s work is the recognition of strengths and assets within rural communities, and strategies focused on leveraging community strengths to address rural health challenges. The ETSU/NORC Rural Health Research Center builds on a history of successful collaboration between the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Addiction Science Center, ETSU’s Center for Rural Health Research, and the NORC Walsh Center for Rural Health Analysis. This partnership bridges NORC’s long history of rural health research and evaluation and ETSU’s commitment to honor its rural heritage.

Please save the date, February 20th for a very special Leading Voices in Public Health lecture.?Brad Stone, a docent at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, will present: “HOW THE CIVIL WAR CREATED MODERN MEDICINE, NURSING, AND PUBLIC HEALTH.” ? The event will start with a meet-and-greet at 5:30 pm EST in the Brinkley Center, followed by the lecture at 6:00pm.?The lecture will be live-streamed for those of you outside the region. It will also be recorded for later viewing at?the College of Public Health website.
