“It all goes back to the practical – I would have had to do a lot of homework and have needed to seek out resources and professional development on my own if I didn’t have ETM.” This comes from ETM Alumna, Andréa Wood, who started with ETM in 2018 and has had an accomplished career as a musician, composer, and educator. Breakfast with the Band at partner school P.S. 236 in the Bronx! ?? At last week's event, the newly formed ensemble of 4th and 5th grade students showcased their musical skills and spoke about the unique qualities of their instruments, delighting classmates, parents, staff, and ETM guests in attendance. Led by their incredible ETM teacher, Davian Alleyne, it was hard to believe that the students have only been playing their instruments for TWO months - they demonstrated such commitment, confidence, and progress! Thank you as well to NYC Council Member Pierina Ana Sanchez for joining us! We’re so grateful for your support and for speaking about the importance of equitable access to music education in our schools. ?? What a day of rhythmic exploration! At our teacher professional development workshop last week, we had the great pleasure of learning from Keith Terry, renowned percussionist/rhythm-dancer/educator whose artistic vision has straddled the line between music and dance for more than four decades. Keith guided ETM teachers and alumni in a series of lessons and demonstrations exploring the possibilities of body music. From mapping the body with rhythm blocks to learning about the origins of #bodymusic from across the world, it was an extraordinary day of deep listening, learning, and building cross-cultural communication skills. ??
