I had an incredible experience this past week at Aspen Ideas Health, surrounded by the other inspiring health fellows. ???Challenges in Treating Alcohol-Related Liver Disease (ALD): A recent NYT article highlights the complexity of treating alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) and here are our main takeaways: ???Stages: ALD progresses from fatty liver to hepatitis to cirrhosis, often without early symptoms. ???Diagnosis & Treatment: Diagnosis requires medical tests, and treatment necessitates complete abstinence from alcohol. Severe cases may need a liver transplant. ???Addressing Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD): Effective treatment of ALD is challenging without addressing underlying AUD. Abstinence is crucial but difficult to achieve without tackling the addiction itself. Ethos is dedicated to helping healthcare providers screen for risk factors associated with alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) to enable early intervention and prevent disease progression.
