All smiles for this team-and it's easy to see why! ?? Meet Willis, a 5-year-old dachshund who was struggling with neck pain and mobility issues. Skilled neurologist, Dr. Rebecca Sandler, at Avets Specialty & Emergency Trauma Center suspected intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), and an MRI confirmed a herniated disc. Willis had successful surgery and spent two days recovering with them, getting stronger each day. Just 3 months later, Willis's 6-year-old brother, Murphy, faced similar issues and needed the same surgery. Their family knew exactly where to go. Now, both pups are thriving at home, enjoying their usual fun and games. Jennifer Brisson, DVM, DACVR, our Director of Diagnostic Imaging, recently had the opportunity to visit Boston West Veterinary Emergency and Specialty. During her visit, she provided comprehensive training to their team on the latest CT technology, focusing on advanced techniques for making reconstructions and creating detailed 3D models. ???? In addition to hands-on instruction with the CT equipment, Dr. Brisson shared best practices for a variety of CT examinations to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning. Her training aimed to empower the Boston West team with the skills to utilize these cutting-edge tools effectively, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes. The face of reuniting families with their animal companions never gets old. ?? Meet Otis, who came to Nashville Veterinary Specialists + Animal Emergency with serious symptoms: lethargy, weakness, and a lack of appetite. After a few diagnostic tests, he was diagnosed with Tetanus. Tetanus, caused by Clostridium tetani, leads to muscle rigidity, tremors, and a unique “sawed-off” stance. Otis showed all these signs and more. Dr. House and her neurology team monitored him closely with daily neurology exams. ?? During his 10-day stay, Otis received comprehensive treatment including antibiotics, anxiety and anti-nausea medications, antitoxin, wound care, and IV fluids to ensure proper hydration. To minimize symptom exacerbation, cotton balls were placed in his ears to obstruct his hearing, and external stimuli were kept to a minimum. He slowly improved, regaining his strength and ability to walk and eat. Today, Otis is back to his happy, playful self. ?? A huge thank you to our dedicated team for their exceptional care. This is why specialty medicine and dedicated veterinary teams are crucial—they significantly enhance patient outcomes and make all the difference in recovery.
