While this news should be celebrated, Opioid Use Disorder still impacts over 2 million Americans. Education is one of the biggest hurdles when it comes to the effective and widespread use of Naloxone (Narcan), an FDA-approved medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. For example, even though 33 states authorize schools and universities to stock Narcan, only the adult staff are trained in its usage. If students are even aware that Narcan is available on campus, they have no idea how to properly administer emergency treatment. The time it takes to find someone with proper training could be the difference between life and death. “I think I’m a pretty good driver, but I still wear a seatbelt.
