?? What does it mean to make ethical choices in a consumer-driven world—especially on our campuses? The Ignatian Solidarity Network is leading the way in helping Catholic colleges and universities (as well as high schools, parishes, and other ministries) live out their values through ethical purchasing practices via the Catholic Ethical Purchasing Alliance. From worker rights to environmental sustainability, CEPA is providing a platform to ensure that institutional decisions align with Catholic Social Teaching and the dignity of every person in the supply chain. ?? Shoutout to the #Catholic colleges, universities, high schools, etc. stepping up to ask hard questions: Who makes our goods? Under what conditions? How is the Earth impacted by their creation? And how can we act justly as institutions of faith and learning? ?? Read more from America Media on how the movement is growing: ?? https://lnkd.in/egsuCUcJ A special shot out to Grace Adams, who coordinates CEPA on the ISN side, and our critical partner Ethix Merch, including Daniel Cardozo and Alayna Milby, for all they are doing to make this work a reality. Ethix is honored to be featured in America Media's recent article about how colleges, high schools, and universities are consciously shifting toward more ethical sources for their branded merchandise. We’re proud to lead the charge alongside the Ignatian Solidarity Network, the Catholic Ethical Purchasing Alliance, and hyperlocal ethical apparel manufacturers like TS Designs. As Ethix Ethical Purchasing Program Coordinator, Alayna Milby, puts it: “There is a need for this, for a shift in the promotional products [and apparel industries] for high schools, colleges and universities. The fact that we’ve been able to [pull] revenue away from those harmful industry suppliers really speaks to the fact that folks will spend more money and will do the extra work to find the products.” Many thanks to all the colleges (and high schools!) prioritizing ethically sourced products for your bookstores! Ethix Marketing Director, Lindsey Cole, recently joined the Advertising Specialty Institute #PromoForThePlanet board. We are excited to work with other industry leaders to advance sustainability efforts in our industry, alongside promoting workers' rights, as we believe that true sustainability must consider the well-being of both the planet and the people who make it all possible.
The #PromoForThePlanet Editorial Advisory Board has a few new faces on it this year, so I thought it was as good a time as any to reintroduce everyone to the sustainability champions in our industry, who are helping to guide ASI's coverage of this increasingly important topic. Please welcome our two new members: ?? Ben Grossman of Grossman Marketing Group & SwagCycle ?? Andrew Kelly of Overture Promotions And while you're at it, spread the love to the rest of our fabulous board: ?? Lindsey Cole of Ethix Merch ?? Kathy Cheng of Redwood Classics Apparel ?? A shout out to the folks at Climate Town and their latest video that dropped yesterday debunking the crazy / false statements in the the series Landman. What I like about them, they do their homework and share their sources. These are the same folks that did the video last year about the broken “merch” world of printed tees. Also a shout out to Rustek Collective for onboarding your great plastic free ball caps to join our TS Designs tees at Climate Town and Daniel Cardozo from Ethix Merch for brining us all together. Good news! The Catholic Ethical Purchasing Alliance celebrates another school's commitment to buying hyperlocal, ethically made TSDesigns t-shirts for its bookstore. Thank you, DeMatha Catholic High School, for putting values first to provide your students with an ethical option!
Congratulations to DeMatha Catholic High School in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington on becoming involved with the Catholic Ethical Purchasing Alliance (CEPA). Dematha now sells a T-shirt in its bookstore that meets some of the highest labor and environmental standards possible for apparel. READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/emu2zdwE The "One DeMatha" t-shirt has a carbon footprint of approximately 400 miles, compared with a conventional t-shirt that typically travels over 20,000 miles before arriving to the consumer. The shirt's entire production took place in North Carolina—including the growing and milling of the cotton into fabric, cut-assembly-sewing, dyeing, and screening.?A unique QR code label on each shirt, developed by TS Designs, lets you track the making, from "dirt to shirt," by providing information on each business involved in the production process. The shirts were supplied to DeMatha by Ethix Merch, a core partner of the Catholic Ethical Purchasing Alliance. The Catholic Ethical Purchasing Alliance (CEPA) provides support to institutions seeking to integrate Catholic Social Teaching values into their purchasing through: -- Educational resources and immersive formational opportunities to deepen institutional knowledge of and commitment to ethical purchasing; -- Organizing and advocacy training to enable individuals and groups to implement ethical purchasing policies in their Catholic community; -- Networking and mentorship to support the ongoing work happening in Catholic communities across the country; -- Establishing ethical purchasing values and expectations in partnership with Catholic communities as well as recognizing institutions that integrate these practices into their communities; -- Increasing ethical purchasing in Catholic communities by creating effective purchasing platforms for ethical wholesale and retail purchasing. Learn more about CEPA at: ethicalcatholic.org or contact Grace Adams at the Ignatian Solidarity Network at [email protected].
