We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Councilmember Peter Ortiz for visiting Mount Pleasant High School and sharing his inspiring story with our Elevate [Math] and Eastside Education Initiative 9th graders. ??? Growing up in the same neighborhood as many of our students, Councilmember Ortiz's visit was a powerful example of true representation. His success is a clear example of how it's possible to overcome challenges, build personal success, and make a positive impact. ???? Thank you, Councilmember Ortiz, for being a role model and inspiration to our future leaders. ?? #District5 #Eastside #Representation #RoleModel #EducationalEquity

Mt. Pleasant High School students were visited by Samsung Semiconductor Inc. earlier this year, made possible in part through a partnership with the Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) and the Eastside Education Initiative. Samsung Semiconductor Inc. (SSI) is the semiconductor division of Samsung Electronics, one of the world's largest technology companies. The company plays a crucial role in the global semiconductor industry, supplying components to a wide range of electronic devices, including smartphones, tablets, computers, televisions, and other consumer electronics. At the event, students had the opportunity to hear from a range of employees at SSI to understand the career possibilities and network with professionals from different departments, including engineering, marketing, and HR, at the Mentorship Fair. The event had two parts: 1) a career panel developed specifically for all 9th-grade students and a 2) a mentorship fair open to 9th to 12th-grade students. Ria Tyagi, a student at Mt. Pleasant High School learned from the experience sharing, “I learned that every experience and every career pathway is so different. We can see some people started off and knew where they wanted to go vs. some had some different pathways to where they are today. And I think that was very powerful for our audience to hear. To just know that there is not just one way to succeed.” Many thanks for the great opportunity for our community partners in supporting student's growth and success. https://lnkd.in/gz9RkcdQ

The Spartan East Side Promise program offers guaranteed admission to SJSU for qualified students from San José’s East Side Union High School District, and last night welcomed soon-to-be-graduating seniors to what will hopefully be their home for the next four years. I enjoyed getting to meet many of these students and their families, and am excited to see what they will accomplish as Spartans.
