Save the Date! The biennial Columbia River Estuary Conference returns to Astoria's Liberty Theatre May 13 through 15, 2025. This year's theme is: Echoes of the Estuary: Reflections for a Resilient Future. The Columbia River Estuary Conference brings together restoration practitioners, scientists, researchers, and others interested in the ecosystems and restoration of the lower Columbia River, its estuary, plume, and nearshore ocean. The Conference is a three-day event with invited and contributed presentations. There will also be a poster session during an evening social. The call for abstracts will be released soon, with additional details to come. We're happy to welcome another new member to our Board of Directors! Matt Harding currently serves as the Environmental Project Manager with Port of Vancouver USA. He specializes in environmental regulatory policy, permitting, compliance, mitigation, and restoration. Matt achieved dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Environmental Studies and Political Science from the University of Oregon.?He also received a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning with a focus on Environmental and Transportation Planning from Portland State University.?Matt is particularly proud of leading the Master Planning effort to redevelop the Port’s waterfront property at Terminal 1 in Vancouver, WA into a mixed use development highlighted by a public marketplace.?This project is currently in construction. In his off-work time, Matt enjoys spending time with his two teenage boys while also backpacking, mountain climbing, skiing and exploring the Pacific Northwest. Welcome, Matt!

We're excited to welcome one of our newest Board of Directors members! Trang Lam has worked for local government in Oregon and Washington for nearly 20 years. She grew up in Portland and fell in love with the outdoors. Her work focused on community and economic development, campus planning for higher education, and parks and recreation. In 2021 she moved from Oregon to Washington where she was the Camas Parks and Recreation Director before she became the CEO for the Port Of Camas-Washougal this past August. When Trang is not working, you will find her exploring great trails, connecting with nature in her kayak and sharing meals with family and friends. Welcome, Trang!

We are hiring an experienced Research Scientist to join our Monitoring Team! The Estuary Partnership has multiple well-established monitoring programs that track trends in ecosystem conditions, effectiveness of restoration projects, and the potential of using our restoration projects as natural climate solutions via our carbon-methane flux research.?The Research Scientist III will design, develop, and implement ecosystem condition status and trends, water quality, carbon-methane flux, and habitat restoration action effectiveness monitoring projects.?Learn more and apply by October 28: https://lnkd.in/gmynet_Z

Tillamook Estuaries Partnership, our sister agency hq-ed in Garibaldi, is hiring a Habitat Restoration Project Manager! TEP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation and restoration of Tillamook County’s watersheds through active stewardship, scientific inquiry, community engagement, and education.?They are looking for someone to help develop and implement the habitat restoration strategies by executing habitat restoration projects that improve the health and long-term resiliency of the diverse set of habitats, organisms, and ecological processes throughout Tillamook County’s watersheds. Clark County WA is seeking diverse candidates for its Clean Water Commission! The commission is a 9-member volunteer board who advise the County Council and the County Manager on issues relating to the Clean Water Division. The commission work with staff to review the program budget, implement stormwater improvements, bolster water quality monitoring, and enhance public education and outreach. East Fork Lewis River Reconnection Project Construction Services The Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership (Estuary Partnership) is soliciting Statements of Qualifications (SOQs) from firms seeking to construct the East Fork Lewis River Reconnection Project (EFLR Reconnection Project). The primary intent of this solicitation is to identify firms that have the capacity and expertise to serve as the prime contractor during implementation of the EFLR Reconnection Project and have a proven track record of successfully implementing projects of similar scale and complexity. The Estuary Partnership will use SOQs submitted to evaluate and pre-qualify approximately four firms to serve as prime contractors and submit bids for the EFLR Reconnection Project. The Estuary Partnership will accept bids only from prime contractors pre-qualified through this Request for Qualifications.? There is a mandatory pre-submittal meeting on August 23, 2024 and applications are due on September 18, 2024. We'd like to extend a warm welcome (extra warm this week!) to Sam McCarrell! Sam joined us last month and will be serving on the Monitoring Team for the summer assisting with field data collection. Sam’s fascination with coastal ecosystems and marine life began as a child growing up in California. Her professional experience focuses on marine science and includes a project to map Oregon’s kelp beds and fisheries data collection. Sam holds a Master of Professional Studies in Environmental GIS from Unity College and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Stain Mary’s College of California. In her free time, Sam likes to garden, craft, and cook. Welcome Sam!
