A former judge and a U.S. Supreme Court justice walk into a room… What an iconic week where I had the opportunity to meet and welcome Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson into my classroom at Howard Law. Her brilliance is captivating and her talk was so inspiring. This week I met Ruby Bridges one night and Justice Jackson the next. The fact that these two women are alive on earth at the time in history is amazing. One who integrated public schools and another who climbed on her shoulders and catapulted to Harvard Law and the U.S. Supreme Court. I am simply breathless at the trajectory of Black women globally!

On International Day of the Girl, let’s remember that girls 12-17 are most at risk for human trafficking, 1 in 3 girls will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime and girls constitute 20% of youth arrests. Approximately $119 million girls globally are out of school. While women over 25 have outpaced men in the U.S. by attaining bachelor degrees or higher, women are still disproportionately represented in leadership in many industries. Today let’s take a moment to encourage, affirm, invest in and establish a mentoring relationship with a girl and target her to launch her passion and purpose. Let’s never forget to intentionally nurture and mentor girls who are facing increasing stress and obstacles, yet have an opportunity to learn from women leaders who have achieved goals beyond their wildest dreams! I am ecstatic to officially start my journey as Chair-Elect of the Litigation Section of the ABA. I am less than 365 days away from my year as Chair in 2025. I would not be able to even consider this opportunity without the partnership of my leadership team of seasoned leaders in the bar and bench.
