This morning, EWA Director Landon Borders presented at the 6th Annual James B. Beam Institute Industry Conference during the Pecha Kucha Research Focus session. He highlighted the Estate Whiskey Alliance story, key milestones and the future of estate whiskey. Thank you to the James B. Established in 2023 by UK Innovate at the University of Kentucky and founding members, the Estate Whiskey Alliance?(EWA) group is a global consortium, which aims discover, advance, and promote the benefits of local sourcing and sustainable production of whiskey. This alliance will support research in agriculture, manufacturing and sustainability to shape the future of Estate Whiskey? production and will provide a first of its kind licensing program, authenticating Estate Whiskey with a consumer recognizable mark. While the Estate Whiskey Alliance group is open to all industry members, only whiskey producers meeting rigorous quality and sustainability standards can earn the prestigious Estate Whiskey certification.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for an incredible event ahead of the 6th Annual James B. Beam Institute Industry Conference. Despite the chilly weather, attendees were able to explore Kentucky’s signature industries and connect with industry leaders. The day concluded with a panel moderated by EWA’s Landon Borders, featuring Amir Peay, Scott Savage and Peggy Noe Stevens. They highlighted the advantages of being based in Kentucky and the region's growth and innovation opportunities.

The University of Kentucky’s?Estate Whiskey Alliance??(EWA)?is launching a first-of-its-kind program that authenticates estate whiskeys with a globally recognized certification mark to be used on qualifying whiskey product labels: Estate Whiskey Certified?. Estate whiskey refers to a type of whiskey that is produced entirely on the distillery estate using grains sourced from the estate or local to that site. Estate Whiskey Certified? products will have each of the following characteristics: -All production processes including milling, cooking, fermentation, distillation, barreling, aging and bottling occur on the estate distillery. -At least 2/3 of all mash bill grains are grown on estate-owned or controlled land. This program establishes an industry-wide standard for transparency, sustainability and authenticity—ensuring that every certified bottle meets rigorous sourcing and production requirements. Estate whiskey is produced entirely on the distillery estate using grains grown on estate-owned or controlled land. This certification provides consumers with verified transparency and traceability, reinforcing the connection between whiskey and its place of origin.
