??PREDICTION 7 IN 2025 WE PREDICT THAT THE WOMEN’S RUGBY WORLD CUP VIEWING WILL MORE THAN DOUBLE. When it comes to making predictions, betting on another year of growth for women’s sport in 2025 would be considered low odds.? 2024 claimed another record-breaking year for the industry across key measures:??? -More people watched: 21 million people watched 3 minutes or more of women’s sport coverage in Q1, with over a third being new having not watched any women’s sport in 2023.? -More young girls were inspired: with the help of the Paris Olympics, the percentage of young girls dreaming of doing top-level sport rose from 29% to 38% YoY.?? -More revenue was generated: global revenue surpassed the ￡1bn milestone, marking a 300% increase in just 3 years – very few industries can say that!? 2025 is set to be the biggest calendar of events for women’s sports ever. The Lionesses will look to defend their Euros title, we’ll see the 13th edition of the Women’s World Cricket Cup, Queen’s Club will see the women’s tennis tournament return after 50 years and for the first time, the Netball Super League is being professionalised. If all that wasn’t enough, England is hosting the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup across eight cities.? Which brings us to our headline prediction…? Momentum in the sport since the last Women’s RWC has absolutely sky rocketed, with participation levels at an all-time high. The women’s game is getting ever closer to parity with the men’s as awareness of the women’s team now sits just 15% less than the men’s (vs. 25% in 2023). The Guinness Women’s Six Nations in 2024 was the?most viewed on record with 8.1m tuning in for three minutes or more.? Most recently, Ilona Maher’s debut performance in the Paris Olympics has helped catapult women’s rugby into the cultural zeitgeist. Her recent move to Bristol Bears will only accelerate this as her presence off the pitch creates a mass fandom. Ilona is one of the biggest sports stars on TikTok, with her videos accumulating 235m likes and counting - more than double that of the official Arsenal FC account (sorry Gunners). This cultural momentum coupled with being the host nation is why we believe the Women’s RWC will double its viewership from the last RWC in 2021, achieving peak viewing of over 5M during the final. What does this mean for advertisers?? 80% of brands surveyed by Women’s Sports Trust confirmed their intent to invest in women’s sport in the next 3 years, with 55% calling out women’s national teams specifically.
