Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Georgia held their Safety Awards Luncheon at the Hilton-Atlanta/Marietta Hotel & Conference Center in Marietta, GA on Thursday. All 2024 STEP recipients were honored and guest speaker Robin Bennett from OSHA: Atlanta-East addressed the crowd. Chris West of MetroPower’s Branch 7 in Jacksonville, FL, Apprentice of the Year for 2024. Today and for the last two days at our Albany, GA campus, nine MetroPower apprentices competed against each other in a trade-specific written exams and hands-on trials for this coveted title. The third place winner was Lane Free, of Branch 15 in Freeport, FL, second place belonged to Abraham Rodriguez of Branch 8 in Tucker, GA. MetroPower started their Apprentice Competitions at their Albany, GA office today. This includes Apprentices from every MetroPower office who will take a written test on the electrical trade and MetroPower’s company culture. Then, there will be a hands-on competition held in the MetroPower warehouse. Each apprentice will be graded and given a number score, and the winner will be eligible for MetroPower’s Apprentice of the Year for 2024. The 2024 Apprentice of the Year will be recognized at a ceremony at the end of the competition tomorrow at 1:00 PM. #MetroPower #apprentice #apprenticeship #NationalApprenticeshipWeek

Lee County Chamber’s 35th Annual Dinner at the Bindery- Oakland Library, was held Thursday and brought together the business community in Lee County, GA for networking, food, entertainment and special awards. John Wanner of the Lee County High School presented one of those special awards to Andy Kennedy of MetroPower for the work he has facilitated with construction students at Lee County High School. The Chamber of Commerce recognized Kennedy and MetroPower for having developed and offered apprenticeships to several students from Mr. Wanner’s Construction Classes. ?Andy has invested time and has sponsored AGC’s Skills Challenge, an annual event held in Moultrie and throughout Georgia for high school students competing in several construction trades for scholarships and prizes. Kennedy also initiated an annual Career Day held at MetroPower each spring to introduce construction students to various careers offered at MetroPower. Thank you and Happy Veterans Day to all who have served! Veterans Day on November 11th honors military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. The federal holiday coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which marks World War I. These observances reflect the end of significant hostilities at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany took effect. Initially, the United States observed Armistice Day as well. However, it evolved into the current Veterans Day in 1954.

MetroPower attended Berkmar High School’s Career Day in Lilburn, GA.
