What are you harvesting this season?
One of my favorite summer memories is eating fresh sweet white corn on the cob from my grandmother’s garden.? She’d save some, cutting it off the cob and freezing it for the winter holidays, but that could never beat the taste fresh off the stalk. In the northern hemisphere, today marks the midpoint between the Summer Solstice and the Fall Equinox.? Across history, this day, known to some as Lughnasadh (loo-na-sa), is celebrated as the “first harvest”.? We’ve got plenty of long, hot days ahead of us and there will always be more to do.? Getting the most from any garden involves consistent attention, including making space for new growth.? It’s also important to stop to enjoy the fruits of our labor every now and then. Just this week in conversations with clients and friends, I can count more than a few times I’ve shared words of congratulation,? only to hear them talk about how much more there is to do.? And then I realized how often I do this myself. Lughnasadh is a good reminder to celebrate progress, enjoy the moments, and refuel for the days and weeks ahead.
