Join us and learn about India’s role in helping address climate change during a time that sees a rise of populist governments worldwide that can be viewed as an inflection point that will determine the future of global climate politics. ? ? The world order is increasingly becoming what Amitav Acharya refers to as a ‘multiplex’ world, and what Philip Cerny calls ‘heterarchy’, where no single unit in the international system is powerful enough to single-handedly determine outcomes, including on climate change. Against this backdrop, India has emerged as a middle power, and has taken some lead in climate diplomacy. ? ? Simultaneously, there has been a change in its domestic politics. Public discussions on future climate action have declined considerably. Climate change registers far lower in salience domestically as compared to its significance for international foreign policy. ? ? This talk will help us understand, therefore, how India seeks to advance its global climate goals and climate diplomacy in such an atmosphere.? ?
