Ohio ESGR recently presented a Patriot Award to Katie Messmer of Hyperion Materials & Technologies. Ohio ESGR Volunteer Bob Skinner visited her to make the presentation. On hand, were Steve Wood and Dereck Vandewaile. She was nominated for the award by Gunnery Sergeant?Dereck Vandewaile of the USMC Reserve. Ohio ESGR is proud to present a Patriot Award to Ed Kovalik at Re:Build Cutting Dynamics in Avon, Ohio. Ohio ESGR volunteer Ron Smetana BS Pharm, MS recently visited the business to make the presentation. Ed was nominated by E5 Jimmy Workman, 758th SMC USAR, Medina, Ohio. Jimmy Workman is currently on deployment OCONUS and facilitated the surprise presentation through Chris Williams, Plant Manager.?Workman wrote in his nomination form, “My supervisor has worked with my drill schedule and military related events that allow me to respond on short notice…he also checks in with me while on deployment.” Coincidentally, Ed had spoken with Jimmy that morning.?Re:Build Cutting Dynamics does precision machining and production of many small parts for military-oriented systems. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed. Recently, Brad Rarick, Sign Shop Foreman at Amherst Sign Shop in Amherst, Ohio, was presented with a Patriot Award by Ohio ESGR Volunteer Ron Smetana BS Pharm, MS. Brad was nominated by SMSgt Joseph Charlton, 200th RHS, AirNG in Port Clinton, Ohio. The Patriot Award acknowledges employer efforts to support service members through various measures, such as offering flexible schedules, providing time off before and after deployment, assisting families, and granting leaves of absence when needed. SMSgt Charlton wrote in his nomination, “Brad has been one of the most outstanding supervisors. He takes time to ask thoughtful questions and is a remarkable support for my military career and obligations.” SMSgt Charlton is also the first military employee that Mr. Rarick has supervised. Mr. Rarick has learned and fully grasped USERRA (Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act) and has worked to thoroughly understand it. The Amherst Sign Shop is responsible for the highway signs for the entire length of the Ohio Turnpike and all exits & entrances.
