Larry Pregizer considers himself an all-around, hands-on kind of guy. After growing up and finishing high school in Lipton, Saskatchewan, Canada, Larry’s interest in mechanical work and the trades drove him to take a job at a local machine shop run by the son of his next-door neighbor. It did not take long for Larry to start embracing new things, including learning to weld and performing maintenance on appliances and manufacturing equipment. Honing these skills eventually led him to a successful career in manufacturing and operations maintenance—a career that, after 34 years of service to the ESCO division, he said goodbye to when he retired last week on 21 March. In the more than three decades Larry spent supporting operations at our Bucyrus, Ohio, and Nisku, Alberta, Canada, sites, he held a variety of maintenance roles, including maintenance manager and his most recent role as project manager. Larry dedicated his time to working with welders, electricians and millwrights to maintain and improve site equipment and operational performance. As for mentors, Larry said he was fortunate enough to learn something from every site manager he worked with, but especially Randy Green, who also recently retired after 54 years with the ESCO division in 2022. Randy’s ideas and perspectives taught us how to find real solutions, added Larry. “What I have loved most about my role is being able to identify solutions and implement changes for the challenges we faced,” Larry said. “I really enjoyed working with my colleagues all these years to make improvements along the way.” In his retirement, Larry is looking forward to downsizing his home and spending more time with his family and pets. And, while he hung up his hardhat only a week ago, today Larry took the time to return for a retirement celebration hosted by his Nisku teammates, complete with balloons, a delicious cake and even a special sash.
