Earlier this month I had the incredible opportunity to speak at Temple University’s Entrepreneurial Student Association. There’s something truly special about connecting with the next generation of dreamers and doers—sharing lessons learned, hearing their bold ideas, and encouraging them to take the leap into entrepreneurship. I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back to a community that’s brimming with talent and ambition. At REC, we’ve seen firsthand how access to the right tools, knowledge, and community can change everything. Through our Creative Entrepreneurship Program we offer, we’ve equipped young people with the skills they need to thrive in the creator economy—teaching media literacy, digital strategy, and direct-to-consumer business building. On October 30th, we hosted a speaker session with Keshia Butler-Thomas, M.M. Students enjoyed pizza while they listened to Keshia speak about marketing in business through her experience as the owner at LCK Consulting Services. Keshia then came back to lead a workshop on Friday where she worked directly with students to help market themselves and their businesses better. Yesterday on October 16th, we hosted a speaker session with Ishmael Kamara. Ishmael owns a startup, The Light Providers, which sells wireless solar lights to help combat light poverty. Ishmael also won the grand prize in Temple's Be Your Own Boss Bowl in early 2024. Students ate pizza while they listened to Ishmael speak about how to register a business. Yesterday on October 9th, we hosted an investor panel on financing an early-stage venture with members of Robinhood, a group of angel investors that fund startups and entrepreneurs in Philadelphia. Aman Sohail moderated the panel while Nicholas Valeriano, Pitamber "Pitou" Devgon, and Glen Gaddy spoke about their insight and experience from the investing side at Robinhood.
