It's #WomensHistoryMonth, and today we honor Western New Yorker Belva Lockwood. A towering figure in women's history, Lockwood overcame many social and personal obstacles related to gender restrictions. She was a dynamic and fearless advocate for women's rights, the first woman to practice law before the US Supreme Court, and in 1884 ran for president—the first woman (arguably) to do so—on the National Equal Rights Party line.
