While the Dodgers were on their way to winning the World Series, The Sports Facilities Companies was in Southern California for an epic groundbreaking. We joined Mayor Paul Leon, City of Ontario city council, Greater Ontario CVB Michael Krouse, CHME, CASE, representatives of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Ontario community to officially break ground on the Ontario Sports Empire. The Ontario Sports Empire will be home to the Dodgers Single A affiliate while also featuring 20 long fields, 14 youth diamond fields, 8 full-size diamonds, 4 football/rugby fields and 2 championship baseball fields — 48 fields on 190 acres! This week, we officially announced that we will host the PR7s All-Star Tournament in Portland on Sunday, Nov. 17, with multiple Olympians. We've heard many describe Portland as the epicenter of women's sports. As a league built on equality, the women of PR7s have been on an equal playing field as the men since we were founded in 2021. We are incredibly proud of what USA Rugby has accomplished, and we look forward to showcasing both the women and the men at Providence Park next month. Yesterday, we were back with the Philadelphia Phillies for the Skilled Trades All-Star Program, powered by NEST. Girls from the MyWIC girls construction camp learned what goes into running Citizens Bank Park, from HVAC to electrical to the turf management system. This is NEST's 4th year supporting the camp, making a positive impact on the future generation of women in the trades, led by the incredible Mary Gaffney. The Phillies partnership has exceeded expectations. The ballpark is led by Carolyn DiGiuseppe, who oversees a team that keeps the 20-year old facility looking new and operating as one of the best stadiums in all of sports. She is an inspiration to the girls at camp and was the perfect addition to the programming this summer. The day also included a visit from Mónica Mu?oz from DaVita Kidney Care. Monica is a founding advisor of the Skilled Trades Advisory Council (STAC), joining Mary, me, and six other leaders from across the country who are helping rejuvenate a depleted workforce. Women represent only 4.3% of the workforce in construction. But with programs like MyWIC, initiatives like STAC, and women leaders like Mary, Mónica, and Carolyn inspiring the next generation, the future is bright.
