    Did the #ProveIT2025 Conference Do Enough to Showcase the Best IIoT/DX Solutions? The ProveIT event aimed to be a vendor-neutral space for demonstrating Unified Name Space connectivity and digital transformation solutions. However, they capped vendor participation at 35 on a first-come-first-served basis. As a result, some exhibitors struggled to meet the guidelines—while other, potentially stronger, solutions (including ErgoTech’s MIStudio) were turned away simply because they applied later. With attendees expecting to witness top-tier innovation, the limited format might have prevented them from seeing tools that truly address their challenges. We believe ProveIT’s efforts to encourage open demonstrations of new technology are commendable, but suggest a pre-proposal or merit-based selection process for future events. This approach would give all participants (established and up-and-coming) a fair chance to “prove it”—and ensure attendees get the best ROI on their conference experience. We’re hopeful that ProveIT will expand the venue or adopt these selection enhancements next year.     2025 - the year that data as a product (DaaP) explodes? ?? The concept of DaaP, championed by Zhamak Dehghani of Data Mesh fame, shifts how we think about data, from being a byproduct of operations to a valuable, managed asset with a clear lifecycle and dedicated ownership. Decision Marketing highlights critical enablers of DaaP like AI, machine learning and real-time data processing - areas where data-driven organisations are already seeing pretty big results. What makes these enablers so crucial to DaaP? Well, AI and ML models rely on consistent, reliable data to generate insights. Without this structured, productised data, these technologies can’t deliver their full potential. What’s more, having information at your fingertips is fast becoming the norm for everybody now. So to be able to process data in real time, businesses can respond swiftly to market changes, issues and, very importantly, the growing expectations of users and customers. But, let’s not forget… Accountability drives quality. And accountability tends to go hand in hand with ownership. When ownership is unclear, data products become neglected, leading to outdated, unreliable data.     I’ve been noticing a growing emphasis on Unified Namespace (UNS) as a proposed solution for data management in automation and manufacturing. The concept behind UNS is to centralize all data in a single repository, often using MQTT. However, this approach resembles the outdated "Data Lake" architecture, which aimed to consolidate all data into SQL databases—a strategy that ultimately fell short. A forward-thinking approach instead focuses on data virtualization in a distributed environment, enabling access to comprehensive, original, and accurate ground-truth data critical for AI and advanced analytics. In contrast, UNS is likely to result in incomplete, outdated, and unreliable data copies. I wrote about this more than a year ago when discussing a modern "Data Mesh" approach, which remains highly relevant in addressing the limitations of UNS.
