?? Celebrating Innovations in Surgical Ergonomics: Trine University’s Impact at ASCRS! ?? We’re thrilled to highlight a significant milestone for Trine University and the field of occupational therapy! At the recent American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) conference, Dr. Jamesdean Visley, associate professor and academic fieldwork coordinator for Trine’s new Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program, was part of a pioneering team advocating for improved ergonomics and wellness in surgical environments. The team, representing the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), introduced the “Surgeonomics” initiative, showcasing interactive simulation stations to address common ergonomic challenges faced by surgeons. This initiative highlighted the impact of advanced surgical technologies, such as laparoscopic and robotic procedures, on healthcare providers' physical and mental health. ???? Key Achievements: - Engaged with 150-200 surgeons to discuss musculoskeletal issues and burnout. - Provided hands-on ergonomic recommendations through realistic simulation setups. - Collected valuable data to shape future ergonomic strategies and resources. The success of this initiative underscores the crucial role of occupational therapy in enhancing surgeon well-being and extending career longevity.
