  • ORGANIZATION SPOTLIGHT!!! The Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) is one of our many societies here at Embry – Riddle that our students can be a part of. SASE was established in 2021 and has seen growth from 10 to over 50 members in its 3 years. Their mission statement is, “providing the Asian community at Embry-Riddle, Daytona Beach, the opportunity to network with career professionals, develop their leadership skills, and celebrate cultural diversity.” This society states that it, “aims to prepare Asian heritage scientists and engineers for success in the global business world.” SASE does this by hosting various workshops and events focused on professional development, social connections, fundraising, and volunteering. The Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers notes that it, “works towards celebrating diversity on campuses and in the workplace through many events such as attending the SASE National Convention and our very own Annual SASE Gala.” The organization prides itself in fostering an “open, enthusiastic, and supportive community, encouraging members to embrace a family lifestyle.” The organization also prides itself on its inclusive environment, welcoming those outside the Asian, Scientist, and Engineer demographic. SASE is excited to share that, “This year, we are launching a mentorship program, where students who seek direction and guidance are able to connect with experienced mentors.” They also not about another new initiative, the Minority Majors Initiative, which, “focuses on empowering students from underrepresented majors, giving them a platform to network, share experiences, and access tailored resources specific to their majors.” SASE is proud of its commitment to giving back to the community. They focus on organizing volunteer and community service initiatives within Embry-Riddle and the surrounding community. ?They also aim to start a K-12 Outreach program to motivate younger students exploring STEM. SASE also prides itself on its commitment to bringing its members closer together through casual and professional gatherings that offer connection and the opportunity to celebrate the diverse backgrounds and experiences of each member The Student Government Association loves to spotlight organizations such as The Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers who share their involvement and story here at Embry-Riddle, because we here at the SGA work to help these organizations provide many opportunities to help students branch out and get involved!

  • SGA STUDENT SPOTLIGHT!!! Sierra Nevins is one of our accomplished Eagles! She is a senior studying Business Administration with a focus in marketing here at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. She is involved in many aspects of Embry-Riddle, which she says has, “further enhanced my skills in time management, teamwork, and project management.”? As a rising Sophomore, Sierra studied at the University of Anchorage over the summer, where she, “explored the tundra alongside fellow students and professors.” She also joined the fundraising committees for The Society of Women Engineers and the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, where she notes that these experiences, “not only taught me valuable skills but also allowed me to engage with teamwork, local businesses, and community members while supporting women on our campus.” Along with these pursuits, Sierra served as a student assistant to our very own Student Government Association! In this role she notes that it, “provided me with insights into the inner workings of the university and its governance processes.” She is proud of the role’s ability to empower her to assist other students, adding to our campus’s supportive environment. Sierra recently interned in a Sales and Marketing position at NEO Electric, located in St. Augustine. She notes that, “This internship has been invaluable in providing me with practical, in-field experience that has broadened my understanding of the industry. I had the opportunity to work on various marketing strategies, engage with clients, and analyze market trends, all of which have equipped me with skills that will be essential as I advance in my career.” As the first in her family to pursue higher education, Sierra had a challenging transition into university. However, she notes that, “but the supportive community here helped me not just adjust but thrive.” She says that the most rewarding aspect of her personal development here at Embry-Riddle is being actively involved in our university community. She notes that participating in professional development events, specifically those hosted by The Society of Women Engineers and the CIE in the College of Business for Entrepreneurship, has contributed to her growth at Embry-Riddle. The Student Government Association loves to spotlight individuals such as Sierra who can share their involvement and story here at Embry-Riddle, because we here at the SGA work to provide many opportunities to help students branch out and get involved!??

  • SGA STUDENT SPOTLIGHT!!! Samuel Harper is one of our many accomplished eagles here on campus, he is a junior studying Aerospace Engineering here at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on the Jet Propulsion Track. He has a GPA of 3.71 and is proud of his involvement on campus.? He is currently doing undergraduate research with the Embry-Riddle College of Engineering where he is leading a project that is, “working to model radial turbine cooling techniques to study the effects they have on efficiency within jet engines.” He notes that, “This has been a fantastic way for me to get involved and learn and study computational fluid dynamics (CFD) skills and methods.”? Along with his research, Sam is also a part of the Embry-Riddle AIAA Design Build Fly club where he does, “the CFD simulations for their designs, I am currently working on calculations for lift and drag on a proposed wing design!” Along with his academic pursuits, Sam is a part of Embry-Riddle’s Orientation Team which aims, “to make students’ transition into college life as easy as possible through our mentorship and fun activities.” Within this organization, he enjoys, “bringing lighthearted energy to what can be a very daunting time for new students.” Sam notes that, “Embry-Riddle is a great place for me to grow as both a person and engineer with the many opportunities and ways to get involved on campus.” He remarks that he “wouldn’t want to go anywhere else!” Sam hopes to continue “thriving in my education and secure an internship during this upcoming summer 2025.” The Student Government Association loves to spotlight individuals such as Sam who can share their involvement and story here at Embry-Riddle, because we here at the SGA work to provide many opportunities to help students branch out and get involved!
