I love maps (my old TELUS colleagues can surely attest). Below is a map of the city of Jackson, Missouri. Recently, I encountered a real-world AI engineering problem, and I think there's value in sharing the challenge and thought process. ????? Problem:?? I needed to determine the coordinates of specific sites, but all I had was an image—no metadata, no GPS information. Manually mapping the publicly available data across all locations would have taken hours, if not days. Without additional data, AI alone couldn’t extract precise locations. Solution:?? On a hunch, I thought about adding reference points to see if that would enable the AI contextually. So I added "anchor" points (known coordinates at key locations) that also aligned with obvious visual features in the city I was working on. With this structured input and visual reference (red anchors), AI could interpolate the missing data (green locations) with useful accuracy—up to four decimal places! (If you know coordinates, this resolution is still low, but I digress!) Takeaway:?? This is what prompt engineering really means—refining inputs to guide AI toward a better solution. This is what engineering the best solutions in the future will look like. AI isn’t a black box; it works best when given well- structured constraints, and the constraints at least up to today require the critical thought input of humans. Just a fun, real-world example of the kind of problem-solving I find myself doing these days! ?? Happy AI'ing ya'll #AI #Mapping #Engineering #PromptEngineering #GeospatialAnalysis #Eradehpower

At its core, AI data centers are just massive energy-to-computation converters. Their exponential growth exposes a fundamental constraint: power availability. Traditional grids weren’t built for this scale, and waiting for utility upgrades isn’t an option. First principles thinking tells us to deconstruct the problem: 1?? AI workloads demand highly dynamic, high-density power 2?? Centralized grids lack flexibility and speed 3?? The solution must be modular, scalable, and resilient Microgrids check all these boxes. By integrating on-site generation, waste heat recovery, and real-time load balancing, they offer a physics-aligned, engineering-first approach to AI’s energy challenge. #eradehpower #EnergyManagement #Microgrids #AI
Perspective: Can We Solve the AI Data Center Power Crisis with Microgrids? This will be one of the many questions tackled during Microgrid Knowledge’s annual conference, which will be held in Texas April 15-17 at the Sheraton Dallas. “Powering Data Centers: Collaborative Microgrid Solutions for a Growing Market” will be one of the key sessions on April 16. In advance of this session, MGK and DCF's Kathy Hitchens sat down with two microgrid experts to learn more about the challenges facing the data center industry and how microgrids can address the sector’s growing energy needs. Hitchens spoke with Michael Stadler, co-founder and CTO of Xendee, a company that develops software for the design and operation of microgrids and EV fast chargers. She also spoke with Nina Sadighi, PE, SMIEEE, founder of Eradeh Power Consulting, a power engineering services company. Sadighi will be one of the featured panelists at the Microgrid Knowledge Conference’s session on powering data centers. #AI #datacenter #power #energy #infrastructure #microgrid #hyperscale #colocation Read on: https://lnkd.in/e_DgeyEK

?? Beware of the "Demand Ratchet Clause" in Energy Contracts! ?? This clause can force businesses to pay for higher energy usage than they actually consume—just because of a past spike in demand. ?? Here's how it works: ?? Billed demand "ratchets up" and won’t drop below a certain percentage of the highest peak demand in the past N months (often 11 months). ?? X% varies between 50-100%, depending on your contract. Why does this matter? ?? ?? Hidden Costs: Even after reducing energy usage, you might still be charged for a demand event that happened months ago. ?? Discourages Energy Efficiency: Businesses implementing energy-saving strategies may feel stuck with high bills due to the clause. ?? Financial Planning: Knowing about this clause helps you negotiate better contracts, manage peak loads, and avoid costly surprises. ?? Competitiveness: Lower energy costs mean greater profitability, giving your business an edge. ?? Stay informed, stay profitable! ?? #EnergyManagement #DemandCharges #EnergySavings #BusinessStrategy #EnergyEfficiency #eradehpower
