Fostering a fairer, more equitable city.
关于我们
The city's centralized equity office has expanded to take on citywide racial equity planning. The Mayor’s Office of Equity & Racial Justice — established as the city’s Racial Equity Office — will lead implementation of these measures and start by producing the city’s first citywide racial equity plan. The office will work closely with the Commission on Racial Equity, an independent commission charged with engaging New Yorkers, to ensure community voice and racial equity priorities shape the city’s plan.

"…If I can help somebody as I pass along; then my living shall not have been in vain." Today, we remember Dr. Hazel Dukes, who led the New York State NAACP for nearly five decades and served on the Implementation of Racial Justice Charter Amendments advisory board that counsels on racial equity for NYC Mayor's Office of Equity & Racial Justice. A tireless advocate for voting rights, economic development, fair housing, and education, Dr. Dukes' impact was felt across generations. Even in her 90s, she continued to fight for police reform and healthcare access. Dr. Dukes was the embodiment of the NAACP; may her legacy be a powerful testament and influence for future generations.

#BHM Spotlight: We’re highlighting leaders in city government who bring both their passion and full selves to the work they do, the agencies they lead, and the New Yorkers that they serve. Commissioner Keith Howard has dedicated 30 years to public service, holding senior positions across the City of New York. As the first appointed African American Commissioner of NYC Department of Youth & Community Development, his work extends beyond his career, rooted in a deep commitment to community service. In 2002, he founded the Harlem Group, which organized health fairs and connected over 100 families to free healthcare programs. As a member of Alpha Phi International Fraternity, he established Servants of All, a non-profit that has taken over 700 students on college tours to HBCUs, opening doors for those without access to higher education resources. We honor his lifelong dedication to uplifting communities and creating pathways to success. #BlackHistoryMonth #Leadership #PublicService #CommunityImpact #NYC #HBCUTours #Mentorship #YouthEmpowerment #AlphaPhiAlpha
