Last week, we talked about corporate social responsibility in a time of immense governmental deregulation. Corporations should consider the social impact they have when they consider bringing new products and services to the market. They should also consider the power and influence of the consumer. Consumers can and should consider themselves stakeholders in the corporate landscape and put their purchasing power to use in holding corporations accountable when the government abdicates its responsibilities. ? Equity Labs facilitator?Scott van Loo?outlines below a list of organizations who have actively separated from values such as?#diversity,?#equity,?#Inclusion, and?#justice. While not an exhaustive list, Scott highlights the power of collective action and how by aligning your spending habits with your values you can hold corporations accountable and and encourage responsible action.? ? View the list below:

If you have not considered you own comsumer ecosystem, now is the time to consciously align your spending and investing dollars to your beliefs and ethical commitments. As history has shown, collectively, we can make a difference through where and how we spend our money. Although this is not an exhaustive list, please be aware of the changes these companies have made and your financial relationship to them. Target: Announced the conclusion of its DEI goals, citing an evolving external landscape and increased legal threats. They are ceasing external diversity-related surveys and re-evaluating corporate partnerships. Walmart: Made adjustments to its DEI strategy, curtailing some diversity efforts to reduce potential for divisive public opinion and legal exposure. They are redirecting efforts toward merit-based hiring and internal talent development. Meta Platforms Inc.: Began scaling back DEI investments, facing criticism for limited progress in promoting workplace diversity, especially in leadership representation. McDonald's Corporation: Rolled back some DEI programs, sunsetting specific diversity goals and changing the name of its diversity team to the Global Inclusion Team. Ford Motor Company: Reduced DEI programs and policies, including ending its relationship with the Human Rights Campaign. They are re-evaluating diversity programs in response to external pressures. John Deere: Announced it would no longer sponsor "social or cultural awareness" events and would audit all training materials, refocusing Business Resource Groups solely on professional development. Lowe's Companies, Inc.: Scaling back DEI efforts, including ending participation in the Human Rights Campaign's annual workplace inclusion survey and limiting sponsorship to business-related issues. Harley-Davidson: Announced it was ending diversity and other progressive initiatives, stating they have not operated a DEI function since April 2024 and do not have hiring quotas or supplier diversity spend goals. Caterpillar: Made DEI changes including requiring all corporate training be focused on business operations and requiring approval from senior leaders for external speakers or participation in external surveys and awards. Tractor Supply: Announced it will halt sponsorship of "nonbusiness activities" such as Pride festivals and voting campaigns, focusing more on "rural America priorities." Molson Coors: Eliminated DEI training after all employees completed it, removed supplier diversity goals, and will remove "aspirational representation goals" from executives' compensation plans. Brown-Forman: Pulled back on DEI initiatives, stopping linking bonuses and pay to DEI progress, ending participation in an annual ranking of companies with an LGBTQ-friendly environment, and discarding plans to push for a more diverse group of suppliers.

More companies and organizations are offering unlimited paid time off (PTO) intending to recruit high quality candidates and keep them. With unlimited PTO, employees can take the time they want, when they want to – within the bounds of their work schedule. While unlimited PTO sounds good, it can be challenging for employees to intentionally take advantage of this benefit and use their time for more than just sick days, appointments, or caring giving. Suzy Walther, the Chief People Officer outlines her recommendations regarding unlimited PTO. For her company they still have unlimited PTO but now have a minimum time off “floor”. This means employees MUST take at least 15 days of PTO, anything above that is their choice. With a new year, comes the planning of time off for?many employees that can be plagued with uncertainty about accepted requests. Including time off “floors” is an example of systemically changing the structure of time off to encourage and support employees to rest as they see fit.
