  • Today, we’re celebrating the birthday of astronaut Robert L. Curbeam Jr., a history-making spacewalker who showed us what Black excellence looks like beyond Earth’s atmosphere. ???????? During STS-116, Curbeam braved the void of space on four spacewalks, including the mission’s intense 6-hour, 38-minute EVA, where he worked to fold a stubborn solar array on the International Space Station. His dedication and skill made him the first astronaut to complete four spacewalks on a single mission. ????? His achievements remind us that perseverance, skill, and teamwork can overcome even the toughest challenges—whether in space or here on Earth. Drop a ?? in the comments to celebrate Robert L. Curbeam Jr.’s legacy! #perseverance #teamwork #spacehistory #legacy

  • When NASA’s Orion took its first flight in 2014, it carried more than just technology—it carried poetry. Dr. Maya Angelou’s powerful words soared 3,600 miles beyond Earth, a reminder that space isn’t just about science—it’s about storytelling, culture, and the dreams we take with us.? Angelou’s poem “A Brave and Startling Truth” spoke to the hope for peace that lives in every heart. Her words now live among the stars, proving that art, history, and Black voices belong in space, too.????? As we push further into the cosmos, we have to make more space for the culture. Because exploration without representation is just erasure. Drop a ???? in the comments if you believe that space should carry ALL of our voices! ?? • Shout out to Leland Melvin—astronaut, engineer, former NFL player, and all-around legend—who just celebrated his birthday this past weekend! ?????? From catching passes in the NFL to orbiting Earth aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis, Leland’s journey proves that Black excellence has no limits—on the field, in space, or anywhere in between. Beyond his two spaceflights, he’s been a champion for diversity in STEM, inspiring future generations to dream big and take up space (literally and figuratively). Drop a ?? in the comments to celebrate Leland Melvin and the legacy he continues to build! #BlackHistoryMonth #astronaut #blackinstem #legend

  • On Feb 9, 1995, Dr. Bernard Harris Jr. made history as the first Black astronaut to perform a spacewalk, stepping into the void and proving that Black excellence knows no bounds—even in microgravity. As Payload Commander on STS-63, he and fellow astronaut Michael Foale tested new insulation designed to keep them warm in space. For 4 hours and 38 minutes, Harris floated beyond Earth, pushing the limits of exploration. He was the first, but not the last—only five Black astronauts have ever spacewalked, showing just how much work still needs to be done to open space for everyone. Every step taken—on Earth or in orbit—brings us closer to a future where ALL of us belong in space. ??? #BlackHistoryMonth #spacewalk #spacehistory #astronaut
