Last week I had this incredible opportunity to attend my first?Women's Leadership Summit (#WLS2024, #AIAWLS) hosted by AIA Chicago thanks to AIA Georgia and Equity in Architecture (EQiA)- AIA Georgia . Chicago greeted us with the perfect crisp weather for the the walking tour guided by Jen Masengarb the highlight of which, for me, was the Chicago Cultural Center and the breath-taking Tiffany Dome. As inspirational as it was to see the many women from our profession gathered in the grand hall for the Summit, equally impactful was learning about the role women have and continue to play in developing Chicago's skyline. Thankyou Jen Masengarb, Chicago Architecture Center and the panel comprising Natasha Engan, Kimberly Dowdell, Gia Biagi, Ciere Boatright for this insight. This year's theme at WLS was building resilience. The keynote conversation between Sumayya Vally, Founder & Principal of Counterspace and 2024 AIA President Kimberly Dowdell echoed this resoundingly. The strength to build resilience also comes from your community. This heartfelt message was effectively communicated via personal stories in the panel discussion that included Jennifer Johnson, Evelyn Lee, Danielle Tillman, AIA, NOMA & RaMona Westbrook AIA, LEED AP. A big shout out to our keynote speaker Kimberle Crenshaw and all the session facilitators especially the ones I had the opportunity to attend: Je'Nen Chastain, MBA, Assoc. AIA, Mika Naraynsingh, AIA, Diane Yabut, AIA, Aisha Densmore-Bey, DDes, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, Julia Oderda, Naomi Harrison, Emily Grandstaff-Rice FAIA, Pauline Thimm, Dora Ng, Lara Presber, Graciela Carrillo, AIA, LEED AP, Shiva Mendez, Danei Cesario, AIA RIBA NCARB NOMA, Gozde Yildirim, M.Arch, MBA. The stories and knowledge you shared were sincere and transparent. Being surrounded by such exceptional women was truly inspirational and restorative! Thank you Canon Design Group, Charles T. It is an annual 8-week event (this is build year #21!) where local women build a Habitat home for a single Atlanta mom. This year we are building for Kelmechia and her two kids.
