I see Strivers struggle acutely when there is a gap between the reality of their experience, and their expectation of what “should be” their experience. They should have motivation. They should not feel depressed. They should be enjoying time off. They should be exercising. They should be meditating. It’s unlikely you’ll feel satisfied if you are focusing on what’s lacking in your life. It’s also wildly unreasonable to think you’ll feel enjoyment day to day when you are accounting for all the ways you’re not enough. Should is ever striving. And I love how we reach. The practice is to switch it out for something more gentle and also productive: an observation that uses “part of me” language. “Part of me wishes I had more to give” “Part of me wants to have energy” “Part of me sees this time off as a gift” “Part of me wants to exercise” “Part of me is craving time meditating” We are many things at once, and we can’t actually do it all. That means sometimes being (in part) wanting or wishing for what isn’t happening. The gap between what is and isn’t happening day to day in your life, is let an indictment of your character, it’s just part of being all grown up.

On behalf of the Stanford Center on Longevity and The Longevity Project, we are pleased to announce that Century Summit V virtual registration (FREE and open to everyone)?and in-person attendance (application only, admission not guaranteed) are now live! ?????????????? ???????????? ?? ???????? ???????? ?????????? ???? Stanford University ???? ?????????????? ???? & ????, ????????. Now in its fifth year, the Century Summit is a principal convening point for leaders and experts to explore the implications of longer life and investigate how we can better support healthier, more productive, and more equitable lives. This year’s event will focus on the challenges of #ageism and the opportunities to create a positive #intergenerational society. The United States has been described as "the most age-segregated society ever," and ageism imposes a considerable burden on individuals and communities alike. It shortens people’s lives, undermines business effectiveness, and costs our health system an estimated $63 billion annually. While ageism principally impacts older people, it also affects the prospects and hopes of younger generations. At Century Summit V, we will bring together leaders from various fields and generations and discuss a new vision for a less ageist society that brings the generations together. ???? ?????????? ???????? ?????????? ?????? ????????????, ????????????????, ?????? ?????? ???????????????????????? ??????????????
