Adolescence?tells the story of a 13-year-old, Jamie, who has been arrested for allegedly murdering a girl in his school in a small UK town. What begins as a police procedural becomes a moving tale of boyhood, of the?manosphere, of well-intentioned teachers and parents trying to keep boys on a path to their better selves. "I was moved by the power of the story, but I was also weeping for the families I had met in real life a few weeks earlier. With colleagues from Equimundo, we interviewed parents and teenage boys in Kansas – in a city that might be the US equivalent of the small town in?Adolescence?– about their lives, the manosphere, and their struggles," writes Gary Barker, PhD, Equimundo President and CEO, in an op-ed for Ms. Magazine. 关于我们
Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice is a non-profit organization and a global leader in promoting gender equality and preventing violence by engaging men and boys in partnership with women, girls, and individuals of all gender identities. Since 2011, Equimundo has worked internationally and in the United States to engage men and boys as allies in gender equality, promote healthy manhood and prevent violence. Previously called Promundo-US, our work was founded in 2011 in partnership with Instituto Promundo in Brazil. Our work was born out of community-based and evidence-based work to engage men and boys in gender equality and non-violent manhood in numerous settings in Latin America, Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and North America. After 11 years as Promundo-US we affirmed our mission to take the promise of an intersectional focus on masculinities and social justice to the next level, and changed our name to make clear our focus on masculinities within and always as part of a social justice framework, and to communicate that message to a broader audience of stakeholders.

?? This weekend my ODI Global colleagues and I are virtually at the #CIES2025 comparative international #education society conference. ?? What are we doing? Rachel Marcus organized an excellent panel: Promoting gender equitable values in #schools in challenging #digital and social contexts. I have the pleasure of chairing the discussion. We will discuss what schools and teachers can do especially when working with boys on issues of gender equality. ?? Why it matters? harmful content on #socialmedia platforms and anti-gender attacks are on the rise (think about the new #adolescene show on Netflix). The digital and social contexts call for effective ways to work with young men and women in ways that speak to their lived realities and concerns. ?? Who else is involved? We will be joined by our partners Isha Bhatnagar from Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice, Natalia Sánchez Corrales from Universidad de la Salle in Colombia & Amanda Keddie, our discussant. If you're attending the conference, please do join us: Sunday, 23rd of March at 8AM Central Time. https://lnkd.in/dg_iiwnY

Today, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, we are happy to announce the launch of #StandWithHer, a global gender justice campaign in collaboration with MenEngage Alliance, Equality Now, and UN Women at #CSW69. This powerful campaign is inspired by To Kill A Tiger, the Oscar?-nominated documentary by Nisha Pahuja, now streaming on Netflix. To Kill A Tiger tells the story of Ranjit, a farmer in Jharkhand, India, and his wife, Jaganti, who seek justice for their 13-year-old daughter, Kiran (pseudonym), after three men sexually assault her. Ranjit’s decision to support his daughter is virtually unheard of, and his journey unprecedented. Despite social ostracization, death threats, economic poverty, and caste prejudice, they refuse to give up. Defying all odds, they win a landmark ruling. Their story of courage and resilience has the power to inspire people around the world to work for a future free of gender-based violence (#GBV). With support from powerful voices like Priyanka Chopra, Dev Patel, Mindy Kaling, and more, #StandWithHer harnesses the power of storytelling to bring men and boys into the fight to end gender-based violence (GBV). #StandWithHer seeks to empower survivors to seek justice, create a culture of shared responsibility by engaging men and boys as allies, and prevent GBV through education and shifting social narratives. The campaign kicks off with a screening tour in cities across the US including New York, Chicago, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, and Washington. Violence against women and children is an urgent global health crisis with profound social, economic, and generational consequences. How can we end violence in our lifetime? A film from the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) explores what the field needs to deliver evidence-based solutions that respond to local needs and change lives. While there is more evidence than ever on what works to prevent sexual and gender-based violence, global numbers have?not reduced in meaningful ways in the last two decades. Why? Limited funding for research and programming, a lack of political will and solid engagement from all stakeholders, as well as the recent backlash against gender equality.?Evidence is a powerful tool to drive change.?But to build a healthy research ecosystem we need core, consistent, and long-term funding for local researchers in low- and middle-income countries, where the need is greater, but resources are limited.? Violence is preventable, and together, we can?make it happen. We were proud to take part in this powerful video?produced?by the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI), featuring our President and CEO Gary Barker, PhD, alongside experts in the field including Claudia Garcia Moreno, Jane Ndungu, Elizabeth Dartnall, Kalliopi Mingeirou, Tarana B., Tesmerelna Atsbeha, and Tvisha Nevatia. Equimundo is thrilled to announce our membership in the Accelerator for Shifting Gender Norms through Education! We're excited to help?build the field and deepen and disseminate evidence-based models that effectively shift gender norms in adolescence, ultimately supporting gender equality in and through education. The Accelerator's focus on integrating explicit principles and strategies for discussing gender and power with youth in schools is crucial for fostering gender-equitable attitudes, decreasing tolerance for violence, reducing dropout rates, delaying the age of marriage, and improving communication between students. We are in the company of 11 other high-impact organizations working across Africa, Asia and Latin America.?Together, we can create deeper impact and lasting change. #genderequality #education #gendernorms #youthdevelopment A??o Educativa - Assessoria, Pesquisa e Informa??o | Breakthrough Trust | Centre for Catalyzing Change (C3) | Centre for Girls' Education | FAWE | Fundación para la Aplicación y Ense?anza de la Ciencia (FUNDAEC) | Glasswing International | International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) | Projet Jeune Leader | Raising Voices | Room to Read Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dXCvZfpx

Today, on International Women’s Day, it’s important to reiterate this message: when so many young men believe feminism is out to get them them, it’s not the time to give up. If anything, if gender equality is to survive as a cause – and if our democracy is to endure – we must double down on our efforts to both support and engage men and boys. And as we do this, we must also continue to advocate for investment in supporting the organizations and frontline services that serve the populations most impacted by this administration – women, girls, LGBTQ+ people, and immigrants. The fight for equality is far from over, and it is more urgent than ever. Read this important International Women's Day message from Equimundo Deputy CEO, Giovanna Lauro. #InternationalWomensDay2025 #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction #EngagingMenandBoys #GenderEquality
