Completed in 2024, this new 40,000-square-foot facility features a two-story wood-framed office and housing structure alongside a steel-framed apparatus bay with four full-sized bays. Designed to enhance emergency response and community safety, this station is built to serve for years to come. It was an honor to collaborate on a project that prioritizes both safety and service. ?? Timber is rising on a new 6,000 square foot office building for ColtonTel, a communications company located in Colton, Oregon that serves a 62 square mile service area in rural Clackamas County. The building features a heavy timber-framed roof supported by a combination of heavy timber posts and conventional stick-framed walls. According to our client, Lloyd Hill with Hill Architects out of West Linn, the vision for this building was based on a desire to “…provide a symbolic connection between the new ColtonTel facility and the traditional timber and agriculturally- based local economy” through the extensive use of locally sourced rough sawn Douglas Fir timbers. The building will serve as ColtonTel’s administrative headquarters and will provide a place for community meetings and events. The exposed aspect of the heavy timber frame demanded close collaboration and coordination between Hill Architects and the Equilibrium design team. The capabilities of REVIT were leveraged to help our team visualize areas with complex geometries and facilitate coordination of the Contract Documents across all design disciplines, making it a critical piece of the project’s success. ?? Employee Spotlight: Sam Ashby, P.E. ?? Big news from our team—we’re thrilled to announce that Sam Ashby, P.E., has been promoted to Project Manager! ?? This promotion is a well-earned recognition of their incredible expertise, dedication, and the energy brought to every project they touch. Sam has played a key role in delivering innovative solutions and ensuring the success of countless projects. Their ability to inspire and tackle challenges head-on makes them a natural fit for this new role. When they're not busy engineering solutions, Sam loves crocheting, riding their motorcycle, hiking, practicing jiu-jitsu, reading, playing video games, and hanging out with their husband Jobe and their dog Jeff. Oh, and did we mention they also takes care of over 100 houseplants? ?? Talk about balance! We couldn’t be more excited to see all that Sam will achieve in this next chapter. At Elephant Lands, we engineered solutions to withstand the incredible strength and agility of these majestic giants.? ? From withstanding a 14,000-pound elephant charging at 5 MPH, to supporting 14-foot-tall shoulders leaning on barriers, and even accommodating trunks reaching 20 feet in the air—our designs had to be as mighty as the elephants themselves.? ?
