Let’s take a close look at an example of back pressure regulators. In our Alicat Scientific teardown video, we showcase how our CODA Coriolis meter and Dual Valve Pressure Controller work together with a dome-loaded regulator to achieve precise backpressure control. In this demonstration, the Coriolis meter sends an analog flow signal to the Alicat Dual Valve Pressure Controller (PCD). The PCD firmware converts this into a pressure set point, adjusting the dome-loaded regulator to maintain the desired flow rate. Last month we looked at one of our largest valves and now it's time to focus on our smallest. The Equilibar? LVF Series Back Pressure Regulator (BPR) is an extremely compact, low dead volume version of our low flow series. It comes exclusively in 1/16″ size ports and has a maximum Cv of 0.01 and a dead volume of 0.23 ml. Equilibar developed the LVF in response to requests from scientists doing catalytic research?with multiple reactor systems at a high temperature. In this situation, BPRs are often placed inside an oven where space is severely limited. The LVF has an impressive Cv turndown ratio of 1:100,000 and features the same dome-loaded multiple orifice technology as other Equilibar BPRs but with a diameter of less than 40 mm. In addition to catalytic research, the LVF is especially well suited for gas chromatography. It is also well adapted to provide singularly high precision for microfluidics and micro and nano flow control. Here's the answer: This research series BPR is pictured in front of Cuellar Castle--aka the Castle of the Dukes of Alburquerque--in Spain. The Alburquerque Dukes were also a minor league baseball team in Alburquerque, NM, active from approximately 1915 to 2000. Thanks to Santiago Fondevila who hosted Equilibar founder Jeff Jennings, PE during a recent visit to customers in the area.
