Southwest Airlines Co (LUV) made headlines Tuesday, announcing an end to its bags-fly-free policy effective May 28. While shares in the major airline rose 8% over Monday’s closing price, Orbisa’s borrow quantity, a leading indicator of short interest, increased threefold to 55.9 million shares since February 28, the last time short interest was reported. Other major airlines, Delta and American Airlines, recently reduced their revenue forecasts, expecting weaker business and leisure travel, suggesting turmoil for the broader travel industry.
